Guinea pig is a kind of multi-purpose herbivore whose fur can be processed and used. it has the characteristics of bright color, luster, softness, light warmth and so on. It is suitable for making all kinds of clothing, hat, collar and so on. In recent years, its artificial breeding profit is very considerable. So, what should beginners pay attention to when raising guinea pigs? These four points can not be ignored!

1. Culture environment

Guinea pigs are sensitive to hearing, timid and easy to be frightened, so the environment should be quiet and the optimum temperature is 20-24 ℃. The control requirements range from 18 to 26 ℃. The weight loss, abortion, stillbirth and mortality of guinea pigs were higher when more than 30 ℃, while the reproduction rate, growth and development rate decreased when less than 15 ℃. Humidity should be kept between 40% and 60%. Guinea pigs need a certain active area, and the active area needed during lactation is even larger. Generally speaking, 300g guinea pigs need an active area of about 300cm, while 800g guinea pigs need 1000 square centimeters.

In addition, it should be noted that although guinea pigs seem to be mild and restless, too much breeding will lead to fights with each other, and it is also critical to control the number of breeding.

2. Reproduction

The guinea pig has a high reproduction rate, strong disease resistance and early sexual maturity. when it is 1 to 3 months old, the sexual cycle is short, usually about 16 days, and belongs to late adulthood animals, that is, the pregnant period of the mother is longer, 59-72 days, and can give birth to 6 babies per year. The embryo is fully developed in the mother, has fully grown after birth, has been covered all over the body, eyes open, ears erect, and has permanent teeth, can stand and walk within 1 hour after delivery, and can eat soft feed for several hours. After 2 to 3 days, the mother rat can suck breast milk and eat green feed or mixed feed at the same time to develop rapidly. The offspring were sexually mature in 35 days, and a pair of guinea pigs could reproduce 80 pairs a year. Their pregnancy is relatively long among rodents, about 50 to 75 days.

3. selection of feeding utensils

The feeding box should establish a clean and sanitary system, generally change the cushion material twice a week, wash the utensils once a week, and disinfect the room regularly. Guinea pig food basin to avoid plastic or other materials that will be eaten, should choose ceramic or stainless steel texture, has a certain weight and is not easy to be knocked over. In order to keep the feeding box dry, it is recommended to use ball drinking fountains.

4. Feeding

Feed should be added in the morning and evening. Guinea pigs are nocturnal animals and should be fed more in the evening. Do not feed guinea pig onions, onions, garlic, leeks, ginger, chocolate, coffee. There is a large demand for cellulose in guinea pigs, so full attention should be paid to the low proportion of crude fiber in feed, which is easy to cause serious depilation and mutual hairs in guinea pigs. Guinea pigs cannot synthesize vitamin C themselves and must be obtained from feed. Guinea pigs weighing 100 grams need 4 to 5 milligrams of vitamin C daily, while pregnant or lactating guinea pigs need 30 to 40 milligrams. The supply of vitamin C mainly depends on the daily feeding of fresh and juicy green vegetables, which can be replaced by carrots and malt in winter in the north. The effect is also good by adding vitamin C to drinking water or adding trace elements, vitamins and essential amino acids to mixed pellet feed instead of green feed.

Novice breeding guinea pigs mainly pay attention to the above four points, in addition, when selecting guinea pig seedlings, we must choose strong, lively and active, and the hair should be shiny and disease-free.
