Salvia miltiorrhiza is born in Xiangyang hillside grass, ditch side, roadside or forest side, and is distributed in most parts of the country. The propagation method is divided into seed, root division, Reed head or cutting propagation. Reed head as the propagation material has the highest yield, followed by root propagation.

Seed propagation

Spring sowing, in mid-late March, sowing on the whole border surface, covered with plastic film after sowing, heat preservation and moisturizing, seedlings can emerge in about 15 days. Seedling height 5-6 cm time seedling. When the seedling height is about 10 cm, it is planted out of the nursery.

Split root propagation

February-March in the south and March-April in the north. Dig holes according to the row spacing of 33-35 cm and plant spacing of 23-25 cm on the whole border surface, apply base fertilizer at the bottom of the hole, cut the root strip of the stored seed root into small segments of 5-7 cm, face up, plant each hole vertically into a section, and cover the soil with about 3 cm after planting, the soil cover should not be too thick, otherwise it is difficult to seedling, and can not be inverted, otherwise it will not sprout.

Reed head reproduction

When harvesting and digging the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza, the plants with strong growth and free of diseases and insect pests were selected and the thick roots were used for medicinal purposes. The fine roots of 0.6 cm in diameter together with the Reed heads on the roots were cut off as seeds.

Cuttage propagation

Cut the sturdy stem branches, cut them into small segments about 20 cm long, cut along with the cutting, and the depth is 1 big 2 or 1 big 3 of the cuttings. Keep the border surface moist after insertion and take root after half a month of proper shading.
