Bupleurum, also known as bamboo leaf Bupleurum and grasshopper leg, is an herbal medicine included in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The medicinal parts are the dried roots of the umbrella plant Bupleurum or narrow leaf Bupleurum. They are dug in spring and autumn to remove stems, leaves and sediment. There are north and south Bupleurum. Let's take a look at their producing area distribution.

Distribution of producing areas of Bupleurum chinense

Distribution of producing areas of Bupleurum chinense

Narrow leaf Bupleurum is commonly known as Southern Bupleurum, which is mainly produced in Northeast China, Shaanxi Province, Inner Mongolia, Hebei Province, Jiangsu Province, Anhui Province and other places.

The producing environment of Bupleurum

Bupleurum is often wild in mountains, hills, barren slopes, grass, roadsides, forest margins and forest gaps below 1500 meters above sea level. Strong adaptability, like slightly cold and humid climate, more resistant to cold, drought, avoid high temperature and waterlogging stagnant water.

Bupleurum seeds have a physiological post-ripening phenomenon, stratification treatment can promote post-ripening, but under dry conditions, the post-ripening process can be completed after 5 months. The optimum temperature for germination is 15-25 ℃, the germination rate is 50%-60%, the seed life is 1 year, and the suitable temperature for plant growth is 20-25 ℃.
