The producing areas of Cornus officinalis are mainly located in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hunan and other provinces of China. They are also distributed in Korea and Japan. They are born in forest margins or forests with elevations of 400-1500 meters above sea level and sparse up to 2100 meters. They are introduced and cultivated in Sichuan, and the distribution areas are Funiu Mountain in Henan, Tianmu Mountain in Zhejiang and Hanzhong in Shaanxi Province. At present, Xixia County and Neixiang County in Henan Province are the main producers to supply the market.

The producing environment of Cornus officinalis

Cornus officinalis is a positive tree species in warm temperate zone, the optimum growth temperature is 20-30 ℃, and the growth is poor when it is more than 35 ℃. It has strong cold resistance, can withstand short-18 ℃ low temperature, and grows well. Cornus officinalis is more tolerant to shade but likes sufficient light. It usually grows well in the middle and lower parts of the hillside, shady slopes, sunny slopes, valleys and both sides of the river. It is generally distributed in the area of 400-1800m above sea level, of which 600m-1300m is more suitable.

1. Foping Cornus officinalis: Foping Cornus officinalis is produced in Foping County, Shaanxi Province, and Foping is the main producing area of Cornus officinalis in Hanzhong. 2. Linqi Cornus officinalis: Linqi Cornus officinalis is produced in Linqi Town, Chun'an County, Zhejiang Province. 3. Xixia Cornus officinalis: Xixia Cornus is produced in Xixia County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. It is a geographical indication product in China, mainly distributed in the southern foot of Funiu Mountain. Especially in the deep mountain area south of the main peak of Funiu Mountain, Xixia Cornus officinalis was rated as the high quality product of the World Expo in 1999 and 2001. Xixia County was rated as "famous and special economic forest-the hometown of Cornus officinalis" by the State Forestry Administration. Xixia Cornus officinalis is approved as "National Geographic indication Product" by AQSIQ. In 2003, Xixia 220000 mu Cornus officinalis base passed GAP certification, which is not only the first GAP base of Cornus officinalis in China, but also the first batch of GAP traditional Chinese medicine base in Henan Province.
