Verbena is a perennial herb of the verbena family, also known as dragon bud grass, iron verbena, wind neck grass and so on. It is used as medicine on clean ground and has the effects of clearing heat and detoxification, promoting blood circulation and dispersing blood stasis, diuresis and detumescence. It is distributed in most areas of East China, South China and Southwest China, and has high planting value. Let's take a look at the planting technology of Verbena.

Growth habits of Verbena

Verbena steppe is produced in Europe and is distributed in temperate to tropical regions all over the world. It often grows on roadsides, hillsides, streams or forests at low to high elevations, likes dry and sunny environment, and has lax requirements on soil, like fertilizer, moisture, fear of waterlogging, and is not resistant to drought. the general soil can grow, but the soil layer is deep and fertile loam and sandy loam are strong, low-lying and waterlogged land is not suitable for planting.

Planting techniques of Verbena

1. Land selection and land preparation: select loam or sandy loam with thicker soil layer as planting land, ploughing depth of 18cm-25cm, apply fully mature barnyard manure 2000kg-2500kg per mu as base fertilizer to spread evenly, make a border with a width of 50cm and a height of 15cm, rake flat the border surface, and leave an operating path between the two beds of 25cm-30cm, which can also be made into farmland ridges.

2. Sowing at the right time: the sowing time of verbena is from late April to early May. First of all, rake the border soil fine, open the ditch along the border at 5 cm from the border, the row spacing is 25 cm 30 cm, the ditch depth is 15 cm 2 cm, step on the bottom grid, and then apply a small amount of biological fertilizer as the base fertilizer, 15 kg per mu, a little fertilizer overlying the soil, spread the seeds evenly, cover the soil 1 cm to 1.5 cm, slightly suppress, and use 0.5 kg seeds per mu.

Field management of vervain

1. Transplanting seedlings: verbena is sown for 10 to 20 days under normal temperature and humidity. When the plant height is 5 cm, there is no need to deliberately leave a single row because the whole grass is harvested, but the plant spacing on each row should be kept at about 10 cm. In order to facilitate the space needed for branching and growth and development, the seedlings can be replanted elsewhere.

2. Weeding and loosening soil: verbena is often combined with weeding to loosen the soil and properly cultivate the soil in the rhizosphere. When the soil is too dry, it should be watered in time to ensure the normal growth of the plant. Weeding is a regular work of field management, and preventing grass shortage is one of the effective measures to increase yield. Therefore, it is necessary to kill as soon as you see the grass and there are no weeds in the field. In rainy season, we should pay attention to field drainage, loosen the soil in time after rain to prevent topsoil from hardening and affect the growth of plants. loosening soil not only increases the permeability of soil, but also reduces the occurrence of diseases, which has the effect of killing two birds with one stone.

3. Disease and pest control: according to the results of planting, no serious diseases and insect pests were found, but root rot occurred in a large amount of stagnant water in the field for a long time. Therefore, as long as timely drainage, loosen the soil can be avoided, drug control with 50% carbendazim 500 times 600 times liquid root irrigation, serious once every 7 to 10 days.

4. seed harvest: excellent seeds are the basic condition for high yield, so seed fields should be set up separately, with plant spacing of 15 cm and row spacing of 20 cm. It is necessary to strengthen field management and properly increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer before flowering, so that the grains can be full and more improved varieties can be obtained. When 75-80% of the seeds are mature, cut off the plant and place it in a well-ventilated shade for 4-6 days, then thresh, remove impurities and shrunken grains, dry for 3-4 days, put the seeds in a clean cloth bag and put them in a ventilated storeroom for planting the following year.
