Whether the roots of orchids grow normally or not is the key to whether orchids can grow well. As orchids naturally grow in the shade of the mountains, the soil is loose rotten leaf soil, good drainage, resulting in orchids have unique ecological habits, therefore, orchid cultivation should be based on this. The roots of orchids are mostly fleshy, angry and afraid of waterlogging. Generally speaking, "Qi is the lifeblood of Langen" refers to its temperamental nature. Water is easy to rot roots, and the supply of water should be determined according to the species of orchids, growth, premature death and the physical characteristics of the soil. "not dry in summer and not wet in winter" is for Jianlan and Mulan, while "not dry in autumn and not wet in spring" is the requirement of water supply for Cymbidium and Cymbidium. In the case of spring orchids, fine-rooted varieties such as blossoming water red and spring red have more requirements for water, while spring sword, snow orchid and vegetarian heart have less requirements for water.

Under normal circumstances, the root of orchids can grow 15-25 cm a year, potted orchids are usually not up to this standard due to various reasons, not only do not grow well, but also rot. Therefore, potted orchids are very important in soil selection and management. For Chunjian, scarlet cinnabar, Baiyusu, Rocks of Eighteen Scholars, etc., block peat soil or weathered rock fragments should be selected, or a small amount of rotten leaf soil can be added. For the smaller roots of blossoming incense, Xialan, Mulan, send spring, etc., it is appropriate to use rotten leaf soil plus mountain mud pot planting. When putting on the basin, the roots should be arranged densely, add new soil to the mouth of the basin, and then lift the orchid plant slightly to make its distribution natural, and then shake the basin several times to make the root and soil stick tightly. Pour water once after planting and put it in a place with sufficient scattered light and good ventilation.
