Dendrobium candidum, also known as Dendrobium officinalis, Dendrobium candidum, and so on, is commonly known as Black Festival Grass in Yunnan. China is distributed in the mountains of Anhui, Zhejiang, Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan to the south of Qinling and Huainan, mainly growing in the high mountains, cliffs and rock crevices in the above-mentioned areas. Due to the particularity of the growth conditions and the limitations of distribution of Dendrobium candidum, and after long-term mining, the natural resources are on the verge of depletion, and the domestic market is in short supply, so there are more stringent requirements for its planting environment.

Seedling production of Dendrobium candidum

Dendrobium candidum with broad leaves and good growth characters were collected in the field as a provenance and carefully maintained. In the flowering season of Dendrobium candidum, artificial pollination was carried out to obtain the authentic pods of Dendrobium candidum. After the seeds are mature, they are sown to form the mother bottle of Dendrobium candidum. After transferring-> strong seedling-> rooting, the healthy and authentic mother bottle of Dendrobium candidum is obtained.

Environmental conditions of Dendrobium candidum

Dendrobium candidum has strict requirements on the environment, and choosing a suitable environment is half of the success of cultivation. Dendrobium candidum should be planted in a humid and cool environment about 800 to 1600 meters above sea level. The suitable temperature for growth is 15-30 ℃, the suitable growth period is 16-21 ℃, the night temperature is 10-13 ℃, the temperature difference between day and night is 10-15 ℃, and the best frost-free period is 250-300 days. The annual rainfall is more than 1000 mm. Seedlings are easy to freeze below 10 ℃, and Dendrobium candidum generally begins to fall leaves below 5 ℃. The relative humidity of Dendrobium candidum is about 80%. It is suitable to avoid drying and stagnant water, especially when the new buds begin to germinate to the formation of new roots. It is appropriate to shade 70% in summer and autumn and 30% in winter. If the light is too strong, the stem will be dilated and yellow, the leaves will be yellowish green, and the growth will be slow or stop growing.

Facility conditions of Dendrobium candidum

Dendrobium candidum needs to be planted in facility environment because of its high environmental requirements. It is possible to build a simple bamboo-wood frame greenhouse or a steel frame greenhouse, but it must be well ventilated and equipped with internal and external shading nets. If the funds are abundant and long-term cultivation of Dendrobium candidum can be considered to build a steel greenhouse with long service life and low repair rate. According to the capital, heat preservation and service life, the plastic film can be made of 12-15 filaments.

1. Ground planting: the soil needed in the greenhouse is fully dried in the sun and treated with caprylic acid to kill the remaining pests and eggs in the soil. In the shed, a seedling bed with a height of 15 cm 20 cm and a width of 1 cm 1.5 m is built with brick or stone, with a layer of gravel 5 cm 10 cm thick and other materials with good water permeability depending on the topography, and finally a layer of 10 cm 12 cm thick. Fermented bark or sawdust, coconut shell, bagasse, mature deciduous leaves or moss are used as cultivation substrates, and a 40 cm 50 cm wide passage is reserved between the seedbed and the seedbed for daily cultivation operations.

2. Bed planting: a bamboo or steel seedbed with a width of 1.2 to 1.5 meters and a height of 80 centimeters can be built according to the financial situation. The seedling bed is equipped with a passage of 40 centimeters and 50 centimeters wide for daily cultivation operation, and a steel movable seedbed can also be built. the width and height of the bed are similar to the fixed seedbed, but only one passage is needed to increase the utilization rate in the shed. The bottom of the seedbed is covered with 10-12 cm fermented bark, broken wood, sawdust, coconut shell, bagasse, rotten deciduous leaves or moss as cultivation substrate.

Conclusion: Dendrobium candidum is recommended to be planted in bed, because bed planting is better than ground planting, it has the advantages of not causing root rot caused by stagnant water in seedling bed, reducing snails, slugs, ground tigers and other pests, which is conducive to the healthy growth of Dendrobium. If long-term cultivation is considered, the selection of cultivation substrate is very important. The accumulated fermented bark, broken wood and sawdust are corrosion resistant and have good air permeability compared with moss, sucrose residue and rotten leaves. It is more suitable for the cultivation of Dendrobium candidum and is an ideal cultivation substrate.
