spearmint is also known as spearmint, fragrant flower, fish coriander, etc., it is a perennial upright herb belonging to mint of labiatae family. Henan, Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places in China have cultivated or escaped wild. The stems and leaves can be distilled to extract spearmint oil, which can be used as medicine or edible. Let's take a look at the price and planting method of spearmint seeds together.

How much are spearmint seeds?

The price of spearmint seeds is about 200 yuan a catty. The young shoots and leaves of spearmint are often eaten as spices, and can also be added to condiments to increase the flavor of cooking. They can be used as refreshing tea alone or mixed with other fragrant herbs. The plant contains aromatic oils, used in confectionery, toothpaste and as a flavoring and also in medicine. Leaves, twigs or whole herbs are also used in medicine to treat cold fever, cough, fatigue cough, cold, headache, sore throat, nervous headache, gastrointestinal distension, bruising pain, red eye pain, epistaxis, black therapy, general numbness and infantile furuncle.

Growth Habits of Spearmint

1. Temperature: When the daily average temperature is higher than 5℃ and the soil temperature is above 2℃, the roots, stems, scales and buds of spearmint begin to germinate. The optimum temperature for growth period is 25~30℃. When the temperature is higher than 30~40℃, it can grow normally. Planting underground rhizomes around the beginning of winter can safely overwinter.

Humidity: spearmint needs more water in the early and middle stages of growth, but it needs sufficient sunlight and dry climate in the bud stage to facilitate the growth of oil gland cells, so it is suitable for growth in the humid subtropical monsoon climate of China.

3, light: spearmint is a light-loving plant, its leaves are both photosynthetic organs, but also the main place to store essential oils. If the planting density is too high, the ventilation and light transmission between plants are poor, which will lead to high branches and few branches, thus affecting the yield and quality of essential oils.

4, soil: spearmint soil requirements are not high, to sandy, loose soil is excellent, pH to neutral soil is appropriate. But because of the large biomass of spearmint aboveground part, fertilizer demand, especially nitrogen demand, is large.

Propagation method of spearmint

1, sowing propagation: spearmint because of the large variation in seed reproduction, so the production of more asexual reproduction.

2. Rhizome propagation: In early spring and March, cut the fresh rhizomes of spearmint into sections and place them in the open planting ditch, cover the soil, compact them and irrigate them thoroughly.

3. Plant division propagation: When the new seedlings of spearmint grow to about 8 cm in early spring, dig up the rhizomes together and transplant them.

4. Sowing propagation: In May to June, select healthy stems on the ground and cut them into 6 cm long segments, sow them on seedbeds, and transplant them after rooting and survival.

How to grow spearmint

1. Reasonable density: spearmint has strong branching power, many branches, low node position, suitable density of first crop is about 10,000 plants/mu, row spacing is about 0.4 mm, plant spacing is about 0.17 m, suitable density of second crop is 45,000 plants/mu, too dense must be artificially thinned or mechanically thinned.

2. Intertillage and weeding: spearmint shall loosen soil and weed 1~2 times before sealing. When loosening soil, close to the plant, it is shallow loose, and the rows can be deeper. After rain, the soil is hardened and loosened timely. Weeds should also be removed manually once before harvest to avoid mixing in during harvest and affecting the quality of essential oils.

3, timely fertilization: spearmint in the whole growth period topdressing 1~2 times, plant height 10 cm when the mu urea 5~8 kg, the second fertilization can be based on the growth, in the middle of June per mu phosphorus fertilizer 3 kg, urea 5 kg to promote spearmint health stem oil, improve yield.

4. Timely harvest: spearmint has the highest oil content in the stems and leaves of the plants in the early flowering season, which is the best harvest period. It should be selected in the morning of continuous sunny days. The weather with rainy and strong wind and weak sunshine has a great impact on the yield. After harvest, it can be distilled and processed when it is 70% dry on the ground.
