Saffron is an extremely valuable traditional Chinese medicine, it has this strong activity, powerful effect, is widely used in beauty, makeup and spice industry, now many people like to use it to maintain health, the price is high. Because of its powerful efficacy and high price, it attracts a lot of people to plant, so how to grow saffron? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction.

1. Soil preparation and fertilization

Nowadays, saffron is mostly cultivated in our country by the method of field propagation and indoor flower picking, which can be cultivated all over the country. Before planting, choose the soil with loose soil, good drainage and slightly alkaline soil, which is most suitable for planting in gentle land or hillside land. One month before planting, 3000-4000 kg of farm manure and other fertilizers are applied per mu to decompose, dig deep into the soil and rake evenly.

2. Sowing seeds

Saffron is propagated by bulbs, and sowing is usually carried out from August to September. The lateral buds of the bulbs should be removed before sowing. Generally, 1-3 terminal buds are retained according to the size and weight of the bulbs, and the rest are removed. After the bulbs are removed, the bulbs are placed in a cool area to dry for 2-3 days to make the wound heal. The strip sowing method was often used in sowing, 5-8cm trenches were opened on the border surface, and the row spacing was controlled at 15-20cm. After watering once, make the water permeate the soil completely, put the bulb flat in the ditch according to 10cm, pay attention to put the top bud up, and then cover the soil, generally use 20000 seeds per mu, in 400kg-500kg.

3. Field management

After sowing, if the temperature is less than 5 degrees, it is not conducive to the germination of the bulb, so it is necessary to cover the film in time, which can prevent freezing, improve the soil temperature, and reduce the growth of weeds. When the seedlings break the soil, it is necessary to break the membrane and release the seedlings in time, so that the seedlings are exposed outside the plastic film to make them grow rapidly. if the membrane is not broken in time, it may affect the growth of the corm. When the temperature rises after the beginning of spring next year, it is necessary to contact the ground in time, ploughing and weeding in time after the ground is removed, and pay attention to not being too deep when ploughing, so as not to damage the root system of the plant. At this time is the rapid growth period of the bulb, in the middle of ploughing and weeding at the same time to fertilize in time to ensure the bulb expansion, generally increase the application of organic fertilizer 3000-4000 kg per mu, fertilization can be carried out with several boats. In addition, foliar fertilizer can be sprayed 2-3 times according to plant growth to promote corm growth. when it comes to April, saffron enters the late growth stage, when it is often checked in the field, it is found that lateral buds grow out, and it should be removed in time so as not to affect the corm growth.

4. Pest control

In the spring from February to April, the temperature begins to pick up, which is the peak growing season of saffron, but it is also the period of high incidence of diseases and insect pests. Saffron is extremely prone to rot and Fusarium wilt. When these diseases are serious, they will lead to a large area of plant death and great harm. The method of prevention and control is to disinfect the plant, so it is generally necessary to spray the root of the plant with carbendazim in time after removing the film.

5. Harvest

During the harvest period of saffron in May, the red style and stigma of pistil should be picked in time after saffron blossom. when entering the middle and late May, the aboveground stems and leaves of saffron begin to wither and turn yellow, and the corms can be harvested at this time. Dig out the bulbs together during harvest, remove the residual roots of branches and leaves, and leave them in the field for 2-3 days, then they can be stored in a ventilated and cool place and planted after August.
