Citronella is a perennial herb of Gramineae, also known as lemon vanilla, is one of the common vanilla, it is often used to extract essential oil, it can be used as medicine, with disinfection, sterilization and treatment of neuralgia, muscle pain. So how do you plant it? Let's take a look.

1. Land selection and preparation

Citronella does not have high requirements for soil, general soil can be planted, but should not be planted in saline-alkali soil or sandy soil, in addition, it is afraid of drought, so it requires convenient drainage and irrigation, and the first crop should be cereals, legumes and vegetables. Select the land to plough 20 centimeters, apply rotten farm manure as fertilization, and then ridge or make beds, because the seeds of citronella are relatively small, so be sure to shape and rake flat, and sow seeds in other places.

2. Sowing seeds

The sowing time of citronella is from March to April, there are direct seeding and seedling transplanting, direct seeding can also be divided into strip sowing or sowing methods. Strip sowing should be ditched according to the row spacing of 30 cm on the border or ridge, with a depth of 7-10 cm. After mixing the seeds and plant ash, sow them into the ditch, pay attention to the plant spacing between the seeds, and then cover the soil, and water properly if the soil is dry. When sowing, water the soil once, keep the soil moist, then spread the seeds evenly on the seedbed, cover the soil and water, and pay attention to the density when sowing. On the other hand, seedling transplanting can be carried out behind the first two, and when the seedlings grow to a certain height, they can be transplanted elsewhere.

3. Field management

Weeding should be done well after sowing to before seedling emergence, so that there are no weeds in the field, which is beneficial to the emergence of seedlings. When the seedlings grow to 4-6 cm, the first seedling should be combined with weeding, and the second seedling should be 13-17 cm. Between seedlings to remove disease and insect seedlings, weak seedlings, leaving strong seedlings, and surplus seedlings can be transplanted. It is also necessary to carry out 3-4 times of intermediate ploughing and weeding every year, and topdressing once after each weeding to speed up the growth of seedlings, generally topdressing human and animal dung water, but also applying nitrogen fertilizer in spring and summer.
