Hand ginseng, also known as hand ginseng, palm ginseng, bergamot ginseng, is a rare medicinal material in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is named because of its similar shape and palm. It has high medicinal value and is currently planted in a large amount in the region. So how to plant palm ginseng? Let's take a look.

1. Land selection and preparation

Hand ginseng generally grows in alpine grassland or forest edge, it has strict requirements on soil, requiring soil pH value between 4.5-5.8. it is better to plant in sandy loam or loam soil which is rich in humus and convenient for drainage and irrigation. Avoid continuous cropping, generally under the forest cultivation, if you choose farmland planting, cutting crops as Gramineae crops. After selecting the land, the land was ploughed 1-2 times in winter in the first year, and combined with ploughing after thawing in the spring of the following year. 4000 kg of rotten farm manure was applied per mu as base fertilizer, shaping and raking to make the bed, and digging drains at the same time.

2. Methods of reproduction

Hand ginseng generally chooses seeds to propagate in production, and the seeds are collected and sown immediately after the seeds are mature. after the seeds overwinter in the soil, they can emerge in the following spring, and the seeds can also be treated with sand storage and sown again in spring. this can also improve the seed germination rate. When sowing, strip sowing was carried out on the border surface according to the row spacing of 3 × 5 cm, covered with soil of 2-3 cm, and then covered with a layer of straw or straw to keep warm and moisturized to facilitate seedling emergence.

3. Seedling raising and transplanting

After seed emergence, weeding, soil loosening, watering and fertilization management should be done to make it grow well. It can be transplanted after 2-3 years of cultivation, usually at 10-11, and when the seedlings are not sprouting in spring. Transplanting should choose strong seedlings with strong root growth and no diseases and insect pests, graded transplanting according to plant size, proper shaping before transplanting, cutting off excess fibrous roots, but be careful not to break the root bark. When transplanting, control the row spacing in 8 × 25 cm or 13 × 30 cm, put the root system, do not twist together, cover 4-6 cm of soil, and then cover straw or straw to preserve soil moisture.

4. Field management

In November, the aboveground stems and leaves of plants growing for more than a year will wither, so it is necessary to clear the ground in time, bury the stems and leaves deeply or burn them, and at the same time better overwintering water and cover straw or straw to facilitate overwintering. After the spring seedlings are unearthed, it is necessary to set up a shed for shade in time, so as not to suffer from strong light exposure and cause the seedlings to wither or die. Loosen the soil often before emergence to avoid soil consolidation, weeding in time when there are too many weeds, timely watering in drought, and timely drainage after the rainy season. There is generally no need for topdressing in the year of transplanting. After the emergence of seedlings in the second year, the grass cover should be removed in time, sprinkled with rotten farm manure and a small amount of calcium phosphate, and mixed well with the soil.
