Peony is a unique woody and precious flower in China, which has thousands of years of natural growth and more than two thousand years of artificial cultivation. There are three main ways of peony reproduction: seed propagation, ramet propagation and grafting.
Seed propagation
Peony seeds were harvested in time after maturing in early August and sown immediately. If you sow too late, the seeds should not germinate in spring. Sowing peony does not blossom until 5-6 years, so this method is generally only used when cultivating new varieties.
Ramet propagation
Dig out the large peony trees that have been growing for more than five years, leave them in a cool place for 2-3 days, divide them into 2-3 branches when the roots become soft, and plant them in the nursery.
Grafting mode
Cut the soil buds or annual short branches of the large tree peony and cut its 2-3cm into a wedge-shaped and embedded on the 15-20cm long peony root, then wrap it with hemp and spread it with mud for planting. The grafting time is from the first ten days of September to the first ten days of October. The grafted seedlings should be planted in trenches, the plant spacing is 10-15cm, the row spacing is 30-40cm, and the soil ridge is cultivated after planting, so that the scion is not exposed.
