The rich tree is also known as Malaba chestnut, melon chestnut, Sino-American kapok, goose palm money, and so on. It is a small evergreen tree of the kapok family. It is native to Costa Rica, Australia and some small islands in the Pacific Ocean in Latin America. It is also distributed in the tropical areas of southern China. It is now a popular potted plant with high ornamental value. Let's take a look at the pruning methods of the rich tree.

The growth habits of the rich tree

The rich tree is a perennial evergreen shrub, which likes warm, moist, sunny or slightly shady environment. It grows best in loose, fertile and well-drained soil, and the optimum temperature for growth is 20 ℃ to 30 ℃. The hot and humid season in summer is very beneficial to the growth of rich trees, which is the fastest growing period, so fertilizer and water management should be strengthened at this stage to make them grow healthily. It should not be less than 5 ℃ in winter, and it is best to keep it from 18 ℃ to 20 ℃. Avoid cold and wet, in a humid environment, the leaves are prone to collapse-like frost spots, hindering viewing.

The pruning method of the rich tree

1. Time: the best time for pruning rich trees is in spring and summer, which is a period of exuberant plant growth. After pruning, it is convenient for rich trees to recover quickly and grow new branches and leaves.

2. Watering: improper watering will lead to yellow leaves and even death of the rich tree, especially when pruning, the rich tree itself is a very drought-tolerant plant, this ability is comparable to the cactus, and now the branches are cut off. The water consumed by the metabolic action of the leaves is greatly reduced. If you water too much, the roots will accumulate water and lead to rot, so why the rich trees are so resistant to drought. The main reason is that his stout stem can store a lot of water and nutrients.

3, fertilizer: the rich tree is a fertilizer-loving plant, especially pay attention to fertilization when pruning the rich tree, and nitrogen fertilizer can be applied properly to help it recover better.

4. Illumination: after pruning, the rich tree should be fully illuminated, suitable for scattering, not directly illuminated by strong light, which will cause harm to the rich tree, and can not be placed in the shade, which is not conducive to the growth of the rich tree.

Maintenance and management of rich trees

1. Rich trees like high temperature, humidity and sunlight, and can not be shaded for a long time. Therefore, the maintenance and management should be placed in a place with sufficient indoor sunshine, and the leaves must be placed facing the sun, otherwise the whole branches and leaves will be distorted due to the tendency of the leaves to light. In addition, spray water to the leaves every 3 to 5 days, which is not only conducive to photosynthesis, but also make the branches and leaves more beautiful.

2. The rich trees are fertilizer-loving flowers and trees, and the demand for fertilizer is greater than that of other common flowers and trees. When changing the basin every year, the proportion of fertile soil can account for 1 / 3 or even more. Fertile soil comes from a wide range of sources, which can be collected from deciduous humus soil of broad-leaved trees and mixed with a little pastoral soil, mixed with miscellaneous bones and bean cake dregs. This fertile soil is highly effective and easy to obtain, but attention should be paid to full ripening so as not to "burn" the leaves.

3. During the growing period of rich trees (from May to September), mature liquid fertilizer or mixed flower fertilizer can be applied every 15 days to promote deep roots and luxuriant leaves. The basin soil is usually kept moist, but the basin soil is too dry in winter to avoid dampness. Otherwise, the leaf tip is easy to cause scorch and even leaf shedding, pruning and changing the basin every 1 to 2 years, and changing a slightly larger basin year by year, at the same time, adding base fertilizer and replacing new nutrient soil to make it thrive.

4. rich trees have high requirements for temperature and humidity. if the temperature is low or humidity is missing, the leaves will often fall, and when the branches are bald, it will not only hinder the ornamental, but also easily cause plant death. Therefore, attention should be paid to keeping the temperature above 15 ℃ and often spraying water to the branches and leaves to increase the necessary humidity. In late autumn and winter, we should pay attention to overwintering cold prevention, anti-freezing management and protection.

Note: small rich trees are not suitable for pruning. If the height is less than 30cm, the lateral buds should be trimmed to make them grow tall, long and thick, and cut to the top when the base is strong enough.
