Peony, which is a perennial deciduous shrub, originates from Qinling Mountains and Dabashan Mountains in western China. With slow growth and small plant type, it is a unique woody precious flower in China. It has thousands of years of natural growth and more than 2000 years of artificial cultivation history. Peonies are hailed as the king of flowers and are rich in culture and paintings. Peony is known as "the fragrance of the country", "the flower of wealth" and "the king of flowers".

Flowerpots and soil

Peony is a deep-rooted deciduous shrub flower, which likes sunshine, cold resistance, cool environment and avoid high temperature and muggy heat. it is suitable for growing in semi-dry and semi-wet loose, fertile and well-drained sandy soil. Therefore, the basin soil for the cultivation of peony flowers should be mixed with sand and cake fertilizer, or mixed with fully mature barnyard manure, garden soil and coarse sand at the ratio of 1:1:1. If there is too much water in the cultivated soil, the fleshy roots are easy to rot. Therefore, encounter continuous rainy weather, to timely drainage, must not let its roots stagnant water. Peony is not resistant to high temperature, so cooling measures should be taken in time when it is hot in summer. You'd better build an Arbor to shade it. Cover the grass curtain or Reed before noon and remove it in the evening. If this measure is done in time, the fallen leaves can be prevented. If the leaves are heated and fallen, it will seriously affect the flowering in the future. Because the root of peony is longer and the plant is larger, it is suitable for planting on the ground. if you want to pot, you should choose a large, permeable tile basin with a depth of more than 30 cm. It is best to use a tile cylinder with a depth of 60~70cm.

Light and temperature

Sufficient sunlight is beneficial to its growth, but it is not resistant to hot summer sun exposure. When the temperature is above 25 ℃, the plant will be dormant. The suitable temperature for flowering is 17-20 ℃, but it must be treated with low temperature of 1-10 ℃ for 2-3 months before flowering. The minimum capacity is-30 ℃, but appropriate cold prevention measures should be taken in the northern cold zone in winter to avoid frost damage. The high temperature and humidity in the south is extremely disadvantageous to the growth of peonies, therefore, the cultivation of peonies in the south need to give them specific environmental conditions in order to enjoy the beautiful peony flowers.

Watering and fertilization

Water twice before planting. Irrigate water once before winter to ensure its safety through the winter. Supply water according to the dry and wet soil after the beginning of spring, but don't overwater it. Fertilizer is generally applied three times in the whole year, the first time is pre-flowering fertilizer, quick-acting fertilizer is applied to promote it to bloom well. The second time was post-anthesis fertilizer, and the organic liquid fertilizer was applied once. The third time was autumn and winter fertilizer, which was mainly based on base fertilizer to promote the growth of the following spring. In addition, attention should be paid to weeding and weeding, and shallow ploughing and loosening soil can be done without weeds.

Shaping and pruning

After the flower fade, pick the flowers and prune in time, cut them according to the natural growth of the tree, and smear the healing and anti-decay film at the trimming mouth to protect the wound and prevent the bacteria from invading and infecting. If the plant is low and the flowers are dense, it should be shorter and heavier in order to inhibit the expansion of branches and the occurrence of root tillers. Generally, it is advisable to retain 5-6 branches per plant.

Control of florescence

Potted peonies can blossom during the Spring Festival through winter flowering treatment, the method is 60 days before the Spring Festival, select robust peony varieties with full scale buds (such as Zhao Fan, Luoyang Red, Sheng Danlu, GE Jinzi, Pearl Sand Base, Dazi Hu Hong, Mokui, Oolong Pengsheng, etc.) with soil, try to hurt the roots as little as possible, hang them in a cool place for 12 to 13 days, and carry out shaping and pruning, leaving 10 branches with full terminal buds in each plant, leaving the top buds, and erasing the rest. When potting, the size of the pot should match the plant to achieve a satisfactory plant type. After pouring water, normal management. 50-60 days before the Spring Festival, move it into a 10 ℃ greenhouse and spray water 2 times 3 times a day to keep the basin moist. When the scale bud expands, it is gradually heated to 25: 30 ℃, and the night temperature is not less than 15 ℃, so that flowers can be seen during the Spring Festival.
