汪洋:农业合作有力支撑中美经贸关系稳定发展

On November 22nd, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang attended the seminar on Sino-US agriculture and food cooperation with US Agriculture Secretary Vilsack and Trade Representative Froman while attending the 26th Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade in Guangzhou.

Wang Yang said that this year is a bumper harvest year for Sino-US agricultural cooperation. During President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States in September this year, the two heads of state reached a series of important consensus on agricultural cooperation. Agriculture is not only an important point of convergence of interests between China and the United States, but also a relatively stable area of cooperation. Agricultural cooperation has not only brought tangible benefits to the enterprises and people of the two countries, but also strongly supported the stable development of Sino-US economic and trade relations.

Wang Yang pointed out that the Fifth Plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee put forward the new concept of "innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing", which pointed out the direction for China's agricultural development. China's agricultural modernization will not only benefit 1.3 billion Chinese people, but will also bring greater opportunities for Sino-US agricultural cooperation. China and the United States should expand the scale of agricultural cooperation, refrain from trade protectionism, provide convenient conditions for each other's high-quality agricultural products to enter their domestic markets and each other's enterprises to invest, and expand areas of cooperation, in addition to traditional fields such as trade and investment, it can also open up new fields of cooperation in the fields of agricultural scientific and technological innovation, joint personnel training, disaster prevention and mitigation, inspection and quarantine, quality and safety of food and agricultural products, agricultural finance, etc. We should take care of each other's concerns, explore mutually beneficial and win-win solutions through good communication, and give full play to the role of various cooperation mechanisms, such as the Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade, the Strategic and Economic Dialogue, the Joint Commission on Agriculture, and other traditional mechanisms. we should also make good use of new platforms such as the Agricultural Strategic Innovation Dialogue, and give full play to the unique role of non-governmental organizations to lay a broader bridge for Sino-US agricultural cooperation.

Vilsack and Froman said that China is a country with a lofty vision and has made extraordinary progress in many areas, and the United States is willing to establish closer economic and trade ties and stronger bilateral relations with China. Agriculture and food safety are areas in which the two countries can reach more consensus, and it is hoped that the governments, enterprises and research institutions of the two countries will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in this field.

After attending the seminar, Wang Yang met with Vilsack and Froman respectively to have an in-depth exchange of views on issues related to Sino-US agricultural and trade cooperation.
