The iron tree is an evergreen palm-shaped woody plant of the Cycas family, which likes light, tolerates semi-shade, likes warmth, is not very cold-resistant, likes fertile, moist and slightly acidic soil, but can also endure drought and slow growth. Plants of more than 10 years can blossom and have a life span of more than 200 years, which is of great ornamental value. Let's take a look at the seedling-raising techniques of iron trees.

Sowing and raising seedlings of iron tree

The seeds of Artemisia angustifolia are large and thick, so it is appropriate to sow seeds with picking and sowing, or they can be stored in wet sand after harvest and sown in the following spring. The sowing method was pot-on-demand, covered with soil of 2 cm, germinated in two weeks at a high temperature of 30 ℃ and 33 cm, and the seedlings needed to be cultivated for 2 to 4 years before transplanting. Before sowing, soak the seeds in a thermos flask with about 50 ℃ of warm water for 12 hours, pour out and stand for 1 hour, then add 0.1% ferrous sulfate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate at the same water temperature, and then soak them in a thermos flask for 12 hours.

Raising seedlings of Fructus przewalskii

The formation of iron tree tillers usually takes 2 to 3 years, and separate seedlings should be carried out from March to April in early spring, sucking buds should be separated from the stem of the mother plant, and the stem bark should be cut as little as possible, inserted into the open field or basin, and buried in half of the soil. The survival rate of ramet reproduction can reach 800.90%, and the sucking bud grows slowly. It is best to separate the sucking bud after 3 years, and it is easy to live if the sucking bud wound is small. Cadres can also be cut into sections of 15 to 20 centimeters long and buried in sandy soil so that they can regenerate new buds around the cadres and then be planted and cultivated.

Raising seedlings of Iron Tree by burying stems

The buried stem propagation of iron tree is to make use of the stem of the old cycad pile dug in the mountain forest, saw it into stem segments about 10 cm long, divide it into 4, 6 or 8 pieces according to its diameter, scrape off the pulp, disinfect it with 1500 times carbendazim solution, soak it in 1500 times indolebutyric acid for 2 hours, remove it and bury it in the clean sand with a depth of about 3 cm, with the skinned side or the original side facing up, and the soil temperature is kept at about 25 ℃. Cover with glass or film and keep it humid. after about 2-3 months, the hidden buds on the stem germinate and grow into sucking buds. When the sucking buds grow to 2-3cm, remove them and put them on the basin with plain sand to promote their rooting.
