Last Updated: 2024/09/19, Eucalyptus is a general term for Eucalyptus plants of Myrtaceae family. It is one of the three fast-growing tree species. Its roots are developed, its absorption is strong, its growth is large, and its nutrient absorption is fast during the growth process, which will cause poor soil nutrients. Therefore, proper fertilization is necessary. Let's come together.

Eucalyptus is the general name of the genus Eucalyptus of the myrtle family. It is one of the three fast-growing trees with developed roots, strong absorption and large growth. It absorbs nutrients quickly in the growth process, resulting in poor soil nutrients, so proper fertilization is necessary. Let's take a look at what kind of fertilizer eucalyptus uses.

What kind of fertilizer does eucalyptus use?

During the growth of eucalyptus, each tree absorbs about 36 grams of nitrogen, 2085 grams of phosphorus, 20 grams of potassium, 31 grams of calcium, 8.5grams of magnesium and 4 grams of sulfur per year. The proportion of different nutrients is nitrogen > potassium > phosphorus, calcium > magnesium > sulfur. Practice has proved that eucalyptus needs to supplement and absorb a variety of medium and trace mineral elements in addition to three major elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and less elements such as boron, zinc, iron, copper and manganese. Although the total demand for trace elements of eucalyptus is very small, it plays an important role in the rapid growth of eucalyptus. If these trace elements are not properly supplemented when planting eucalyptus, the young parts of the tree, such as root, root tip and stem tip, suffer first, and in serious cases, the growth point is necrotic, the formation of lignin is blocked, and the yield is reduced.

How to fertilize eucalyptus?

1. Base fertilizer: seven days before eucalyptus planting, apply compound fertilizer or eucalyptus special fertilizer 0.25 to 0.5 kg per hole, apply fertilizer into the hole and backfill a layer of topsoil 1 to 2 centimeters thick.

2. Topdressing: one month after eucalyptus planting or after the young tree grows 1 meter high, topdressing begins, and each plant applies 0.25 kg compound fertilizer or eucalyptus special fertilizer to promote the early growth and rapid growth of eucalyptus. In the second year, topdressing was applied once from March to April, with 0.5 kg of compound fertilizer or special eucalyptus fertilizer per plant. Topdressing was applied once in the third and fourth years, and 0.8 kg of compound fertilizer or special fertilizer for eucalyptus was applied to promote the rapid growth of eucalyptus, which could be cut down in 4 to 5 years, and the wood yield per mu could reach 6 to 8 cubic meters.

How to fertilize eucalyptus?

1. Eucalyptus must weed before topdressing each time to avoid weeds competing for fertilizer.

2. The topdressing of eucalyptus can open a crescent-shaped fertilizer ditch in the uphill direction 30 cm away from the root, or a fertilizer hole on the upper and right sides of the root, and cover the soil after application to prevent fertilizer loss.

3. It is best to apply fertilizer after rain, and the fertilizer is easy to be absorbed.

4. The soil in the ridge of the slope is thin and thin, so we should apply more fertilizer, while the soil in the valley near the gully is thick and fertile, so we should apply less fertilizer, take measures according to local conditions, use reasonable amount, save cost and improve benefit.

5. Using soil testing and fertilization, according to the suggestion card of soil testing and fertilization given by the technical department, fertilizing, saving cost and increasing efficiency.
