The first kind of iris rhizome stout, environmental adaptability, drought resistance, in sufficient light, good drainage, fertilizer and water under the right conditions of good growth, such as German iris, iris, fragrant root iris and so on belong to this category. The second kind of iris is wet and grows well in wet soil or shallow water, such as yellow calamus, flower calamus, iris and so on.

Iris species classification

2. Xerophyte: Iris chinensis and Acorus calamus L. have strong adaptability to soil and water and can resist drought. These flowers are mostly used as ground cover and edging plants.

3. Medium growth: iris, iris, German iris and silver-bract iris are born in soil with good drainage and moderate humidity. These flowers are widely used and can be planted in special gardens, flower beds, flower borders and ground covers.

Culture method of iris flower

1. Propagation: Iris flowers are usually propagated by means of ramets and cuttings, and can also be propagated by seeds. Plantlet propagation is more than early winter or early spring dormant period, cutting propagation is more in spring propagation, sowing is immediately after seed harvest sowing.

2. Soil: Iris will grow poorly in acidic soil, so breeding Iris should choose clay loam rich in humus or alkaline soil mixed with lime. Before planting, the soil should be fully ploughed, and decomposed compost and a small amount of bone meal and plant ash should be applied as base fertilizer. In addition, planting iris should not be too deep, rhizomes should be compacted.

Temperature: The optimum growth temperature of iris is 15~17℃, and it likes a humid environment with sufficient sunshine. However, if the light is too strong, it should be properly shaded. If the humidity is too high, it can be reduced by heating and ventilation.

4. Watering: After planting iris flowers, water should be poured once, and then watering can be carried out according to the dry and wet conditions of the soil. Generally, it is better to dry the soil slightly. Do not let the soil water or long-term too wet, so as not to cause rot or disease. In order to keep the plant beautiful, the leaves of the plant can be washed.

5. Fertilization: 1~2 times of decomposed thin cake fertilizer water or compound fertilizer should be applied before the spring germination and growth of iris flowers, and it is best to apply liquid fertilizer once after the flowers wither.

6, disease prevention: iris flower in the breeding process is prone to disease is mainly soft rot. If soft rot is found, the plant should be dug up in time, the rotten part removed, and the planting site or pot changed for transplantation. The main pest of iris is bean beetle, which is mainly treated by artificial killing of adults and poisoning larvae. Between April and May, 250 times of 25% wettable imine can be poured into iris flowers to prevent underground pests. In winter, dead leaves and branches should be cleaned, which can also reduce the occurrence of iris pests.
