Growth Habits of Ipomoea paniculata

Dragon boat flower is more suitable for high temperature and sufficient sunshine environment, like humid and hot climate, not low temperature resistance. The optimum temperature for growth is 23~32℃. When the temperature is lower than 20℃, its growth weakens and its flowering decreases obviously, but if the sunshine is sufficient, there are still a certain number of flower buds. When the temperature is lower than 10℃, its physiological activity decreases and its growth is slow. When the temperature is lower than 0℃, it will produce freezing damage. Acidic soil, the most suitable soil pH value is 5~5.5. Soil with good drainage and good fertility retention can grow well. The best soil for cultivation is sandy loam or humus loam rich in organic matter. If the soil is alkaline, growth is hindered and development is poor.

Breeding method of dragon boat flower

1, cuttage: Dragon boat flower cuttage propagation to 6~7 months for good, select semi-mature branches 10~15 cm long inserted into the sand bed, the appropriate temperature is 24~30℃, 40~50 days after the root, cuttings with 0.5% indole butyric acid solution soaked for 3~5 seconds, can shorten the rooting period.

2. Sowing: Dragon boat flower is collected in winter and sown in spring. The optimum temperature for germination is 22~24℃. It germinates 20~25 days after sowing. When 3~4 pairs of true leaves grow, the seedlings can be transferred to 8 cm pots.

3, layering: dragon boat flower layering propagation select more branches and dense plants, in the top 20 cm from the circular peeling, with peat and film wrap, more than 2 months can heal root.

Cultivation method of dragon boat flower

1, soil: Dragon boat flower cultivation soil to fertile, loose and good drainage acid sandy loam is the best. Mixed soil of culture soil, peat soil and coarse sand is suitable for potted plants, and pH is 5~5.5.

2, watering: dragon boat flowers like wet afraid of dry. Sufficient water is needed during the growth period of stems and leaves, and the pot soil is kept moist, which is beneficial to the germination of branches and the growth of leaves. But long-term too wet, easy to cause part of the root rot, affecting growth and flowering. If the soil is too dry or wet, water supply is not timely, will produce defoliation phenomenon.

3. Sunshine: Dragon boat flower needs sufficient sunshine, especially in the growth period of stems and leaves. Under sufficient sunshine, the leaves are green and shiny, which is conducive to the formation of inflorescences, neat flowers and bright colors. It can also grow in a semi-shady environment, but the leaves are light green, lack luster, flower less, and the color is lighter. However, proper shade under strong light in summer can prolong the flowering period.

4. Temperature: The suitable temperature for the growth of Dragon Boat Flower is 15~25℃, 24~30℃ from March to September, and 13~18℃ from September to March of the following year. Winter temperature is not low 0℃, too low easy to suffer from freezing damage. On the contrary, Dragon Boat Flower is resistant to high temperature and grows normally above 32℃. In general, draconis has a strong adaptability to temperature.

5. Fertilization: The liquid fertilizer after decomposition and fermentation is mixed with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, ferrous sulfate and horseshoe slices according to the ratio of 1:1:1:2:3.

6. Pruning: The pruning of dragon boat flowers is mostly carried out after leaving the room in spring, mainly to properly thinning the branches of the plants to facilitate ventilation and light. In addition, flowering proper topping, can make it more pregnant buds, flowering.
