Lupin, also known as lupin, lupin, etc., is an annual herb of the genus Lupin of Leguminosae. It is native to North America and grows mostly in temperate regions of sand. It has many horticultural varieties and colorful flowers. It can be used for flake planting or group planting in ribbon flower beds. It is also a good material for cut flower production. Let's take a look at the planting method of lupine.

Growth habits of Lupin

Lupine is more hardy (more than-5 ℃), like cool climate, sunny places, avoid heat, slightly shade-resistant, need fertile, well-drained sandy soil, developed taproot, few fibrous roots, not resistant to transplantation. The root system is developed, drought tolerance, the most suitable for sandy soil, the ability to use insoluble phosphorus in phosphate is also strong. It can still grow in rainy, waterlogged areas and other acidic soils where plants are difficult to grow, but calcareous soils or poor drainage often lead to poor growth. It can tolerate a temperature of 0 ℃, but freeze to death when the temperature is below-4 ℃, and the extreme heat in summer also inhibits growth.

Propagation methods of Lupin

1. Sowing: in the production of lupin, sowing can be done in spring and autumn. Under natural conditions, autumn sowing blossoms earlier and grows better than spring sowing. Sowing in the middle of September to October, and April to June of the following year.

2. Cuttage: Lupin cuttings sprout branches at the rhizome in spring, cut into 8cm and 10cm, preferably with some rhizomes, cut in a cold bed.

The planting method of Lupin

1. Soil: Lupin has deep roots and few nodules, which requires deep soil layer, fertile and loose soil, good drainage, acid sandy soil, neutral and slightly alkaline soil.

2. Separate planting: the lupin seedling stage is 30 to 35 days. After the true leaves are fully unfolded, the seedlings are transferred and divided, and the original soil is retained when the seedlings are transferred, which is beneficial to slow down the seedlings.

3. Temperature: lupin sowing in autumn should take corresponding measures against cold during overwintering, and the temperature should be above 5 ℃ to avoid freezing damage to leaves and affect the vegetative growth and ornamental effect in the early stage.

4. Fertilization: lupin topdressing begins in March, usually once a week for 20% water-soluble fertilizer (such as Huaduoduo). When it grows well, it can be applied once a half a month until the arrow drawing stops.

5. Change the basin: the basin should be changed one or two times according to the growth situation in the feather lupin culture, and the pot should be selected as a high barrel basin, in order to meet the growth needs of taproot roots and determine the reasonable planting density.

6. Diseases and insect pests: lupins are easy to suffer from leaf spot, powdery mildew, rust and basic rot in the process of cultivation. The diseased leaves are cleared in time when the disease is mild, and fungicides are sprayed in time at the initial stage of the disease, once every 7 to 10 days. Continuous spraying for 2 to 3 times can control the occurrence and spread of the disease.
