Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Pelargonium is a perennial herb belonging to Pelargonium of Geraniaceae. Its young plants are fleshy herbs, while its old plants are semi-lignified. It originated in southern Africa and is now widely cultivated all over the world. It has strong adaptability, bright colors and long flowering period.

Pelargonium is also known as hydrangea, red, stone red, etc., is a perennial herb of the family Pelargoniaceae, young plants are succulent herbs, old plants are semi-lignified, native to southern Africa, and are now widely cultivated all over the world, with strong adaptability, bright flowers and long florescence, suitable for indoor display, flower bed layout and so on. Let's take a look at the seed price and planting method of geraniums.

How much is the geranium seed per gram?

Geranium seeds are very small, usually about 200 per gram, and their price is generally about 10-15 yuan per gram, but the price varies according to the quality and variety of seeds. Geranium is commonly used in sowing and cutting propagation, but excellent intermediate varieties can be selected by sowing and breeding seedlings, so it is commonly used to sow and propagate when improving varieties.

Sowing method of geranium

1. Sowing time: geranium can be sowed in spring and autumn, and indoor pot sowing in spring is better, the optimum temperature for germination is 20: 25 ℃, the seed is not large, the soil cover should not be deep after sowing, it can germinate in 14-21 days, and it can blossom in summer in the second year of autumn sowing.

2. Sowing method: the geranium sowing substrate was arranged according to 8:1:1 peat soil, vermiculite and perlite. Before sowing, the substrate was watered through, and then the seeds were evenly sown in the seedling plate, covered with vermiculite, and the thickness was about 3 times of the seed diameter.

3. Post-sowing management: geranium was disinfected with chlorothalonil after sowing, arched shed, covered with plastic film, suitable temperature was 20: 23 ℃, humidity was kept above 95%, plastic film was opened when sprouting evenly in a week or so, foliar fertilizer was sprayed every 10 days.

Planting methods of geraniums

1. Soil: geranium has strong adaptability and can grow in all kinds of soil, but the sandy loam rich in humus grows best, and the soil bought in the flower-and-bird market mixed with some sandy soil is more beneficial to the growth of geranium.

2. Temperature: geraniums like warm, moist and sunny environment. The most suitable temperature for growth is 10-20 ℃. It should be placed in a temperature not lower than zero in winter and moved to a cool place in summer.

3, moisture: geranium is a kind of plant that does not like much water, do not water too much in the process of breeding, only need to water once every two to three days, but the amount of water should be enough each time.

4. Fertilization: excessive fertilization of geranium at one time will cause dehydration, which can be watered in rear service to relieve symptoms, but if it is not fertilized for a long time, it will also cause insufficient nutrients, which mainly depends on the quality of soil, flowers and the size of flowerpots.

5. Illumination: sufficient sunlight is needed during the growing period of geraniums. Sufficient sunshine helps geraniums blossom. In spring and autumn, pay attention to the temperature. If the temperature is too high, you should avoid making geraniums receive light.

6. Pests: geraniums are poorly ventilated and too humid and prone to leaf spot disease and flower wilt. Diseased flowers and leaves should be removed immediately and sprayed with appropriate amount of Bordeaux liquid to control pests. Red spiders and whiteflies can be sprayed with 1000 times of omethoate emulsion.

7. Pruning: reasonable pruning of geranium can promote more flowering. It is usually necessary to pick the heart of the plant many times to promote its branching and budding. After the flower fades, the residual flowers should be cut off in time, and the dense and weak branches should be cut off, but it should not be re-cut in winter.

8. Change the basin: the geranium grows fast and needs to change the basin once a year, and it is carried out in early spring. Remove the old root and old soil when changing the basin, and move to the outdoor sunny place for maintenance in late April.

Matters needing attention of geranium

The main results are as follows: 1. The flowering of geranium is affected by excessive watering or rain, rotten roots caused by long-term stagnant water in the basin, yellow leaves or overgrown plants.

2. Excessive fertilization of geranium, especially excessive nitrogen fertilizer, is easy to cause branches and leaves to grow, no flowering or sparse flowering, and poor flower quality.

3. Insufficient or non-fertilization of geranium will affect the normal growth and flowering of the plant, so phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied properly in early spring or early autumn.

4. The branches and leaves of pelargonium are easy to grow at room temperature above 20 ℃ in winter, which affects the flowering of the following year, but the temperature below 0 ℃ is vulnerable to freezing injury.

5. The geranium is exposed to direct sunlight in summer, and the leaf margin is vulnerable to sunburn, poor growth or shedding of flowers and leaves.

6. The geranium is overweight by coring and pruning, and its long-term leaves are very few, which will delay the growth period and reduce the number of flowers.

7. If there is not enough light for a long time in the indoor maintenance of geranium in winter and spring, it is easy to cause the plant to grow and not blossom.
