Hanging orchid, also known as hanging pot grass, fishing orchid, originated in South Africa, is a famous drug plant, but also has a strong role in air purification, deeply loved by many people. So do you know how Cymbidium breeds? Cymbidium can be propagated by cutting, ramet, sowing and other methods. Let's follow the editor to see the specific steps of its reproduction.

Growth habit

Before breeding, let's first understand the growth habits. Cymbidium prefers warm, humid, semi-shady environment and has strong adaptability, which is different from other potted plants. It is not strict with light and is suitable for growth in medium light environment. Soil requirements are not strict, can adapt to a variety of soils, to fertile loose, well-drained sandy soil growth is the best, more drought-resistant, not cold-resistant, the suitable temperature for growth is 15-25 degrees, afraid of high temperature, the temperature will stop growing above 30 degrees, leaves will yellowing, winter higher than 12 degrees can grow normally, too low temperature will grow slowly or enter the dormant period, below 5 degrees will be frostbite.

Sowing and reproduction

In March in spring, bury the seeds in the soil, pay attention to cover the soil not too deep, because the seeds of Cymbidium are small, too deep cover is disadvantageous to its germination, shallow burying 0.5cm can be. Pour enough water after sowing to keep the soil moist, and the amount of water should not be too much, so that the seeds should not be soaked directly in water, the temperature should be controlled at 15-20 degrees Celsius directly, and they can germinate within half a month. After the seedlings are formed, they can be transplanted into the basin.

Ramet propagation

Ramet propagation is not commonly used, because this method is more laborious, and the survival rate is not as good as sowing and reproduction, and even misoperation will lead to the death of the mother plant. Select plants that are vigorous and disease-free, and pull them out of the pot, paying attention to ensuring the integrity of their roots and not damaging them. Remove the potted soil and necrotic roots, cut off part of the old roots, leave three stems on the separated plants, and then transplant and culture. If you find it troublesome, you can also cut off the clustered stems and leaves on the stolon of the plant, and find another pot to plant directly.

Cuttage propagation

Cutting propagation is more commonly used, the process is relatively simple, and the survival rate is still high. Similarly, the plants with exuberant growth and disease-free health are selected, and the stolons with new buds are cut off 5-10cm, inserted into the soil, watered thoroughly, and kept moist and temperature. it can take root in about 7 days and transplant in 20 days.
