The cause of soft rot of orchids
First, the source of grass: the grass is already infected when it is bought back, and orchids are generally prone to soft rot. As far as I know, some sellers cut off the sick seedlings and then sell them. Buyers fall into the pot for at least 3 or 5 days, and most of them fall in March or May, making buyers expensive and sad, so when buying grass, they should look at the grass and people, and take good care of the first pass.
Second, transportation: mainly in the high temperature season, do not dry in a closed environment, otherwise you may not be able to see it when you put it on the pot, and the grass will suddenly fall down a few days or more than ten days after it has been put on the pot. When the temperature is high, if you need to deliver the goods, you must punch holes in the PVC tube or packaging material to let the orchids breathe.
2. Ramets: 1. According to my practice, the most common time to suffer from two rots every year is when the new seedlings become ramets in autumn. at this time, the grass of the ramets usually separates the third-generation seedlings from the mother seedlings, and the problems are relatively easy to occur after the third-generation seedlings are separated. because the mother seedling of the mother seedling is the grass of the previous year, the corm is not very mature, and the disease resistance is slightly poor. In addition, the "autumn tiger" is rampant, and the wound is easy to be infected after the split. 2. Grass must be strictly disinfected after splitting, which is the same as human wound disinfection. My method is to soak in potion first, and then use fungicides or wound healing agents to seal the wound. Then fully dry, wait for the fungicide or wound healing agent on the wound to dry completely, and then put it on the basin, so that the wound is not easy to be infected when watered. If you need to deliver the goods, you should plug a little sterilized dry water moss at the cut, do not use wet water moss directly, lest the humidity is too high and infect germs!
Third, watering: "raise orchids a little bit, watering for three years." although this is an old saying, as far as I know, some orchids have been raised for many years and still have not passed the watering barrier. Personally think: 1, to water thoroughly, dry thoroughly, the surface of the plastic basin should wait for a while before watering; 2, not dry, but also can not be too dry, otherwise it is easy to appear empty root situation; 3, if watering with water pipes, summer should pay attention to the hot water in the pipe, although this is a common sense problem, but I also carelessly ignored the problem; 4, the wound is not dry, it is best not to water, in case of infection! 5. On a hot summer day, it is best to water it after 10:00 in the evening, when the heat is almost over, otherwise the orchid leaves are prone to black spots after watering. 6. Watering can be done right over the head, but you should pay attention to blowing it with a fan or strengthening ventilation after watering.
Fourth, humidity and ventilation: this is a difficult problem, and it is easy to take care of one or the other, but these two issues are very important and cannot be explained clearly in a word. In short, measures should be taken in accordance with local conditions, and water can be sprinkled on the ground. Conditions can also be added, such as pool water storage and moisturizing, exhaust fans, increase water curtains, humidifiers and other hardware measures.
5. Plant materials: 1. Plant materials should be loose, breathable and well filtered; raw materials, such as bark, grain hulls, peanut shells, etc., must be fully retted and fermented, otherwise the plant materials will heat up in the basin and be very prone to soft rot (I paid too much for this problem carelessly! 2. According to my experience of growing common grass in the land, as long as the whole piece of common grass is not changed for 2 to 3 years, the whole piece of common grass will often end up slowly, either stem rot or soft rot, the reason should be that the plant material has been used for a long time, and the acidity in it is increased, so I think the first thing is to change the plant material properly, and the second old plant material and the old orchid pot must be disinfected properly. Rare and valuable grass is recommended not to use old plant materials, old orchid pots, plant materials had better be changed once a year, so nutrition is improved, germs are reduced, why not?
