The central government allocated 16.649 billion yuan to support grassland ecological protection.
According to the Agriculture Department of the Ministry of Finance, in 2015, the central government further increased its investment, allocating 16.649 billion yuan, an increase of 880 million yuan over the previous year. It will be used to implement subsidies for forbidden grazing on grasslands, incentives for balance between grass and livestock, subsidies for improved varieties of forage grass and means of production for herdsmen, and to support the transformation of the development mode of animal husbandry in grassland pastoral areas through performance evaluation incentives. At the same time, a new round of subsidy and incentive policy for grassland ecological protection (2016-2020) is starting research.
It is reported that in order to strengthen the construction of grassland ecological protection, since 2011, the central government has allocated funds to comprehensively establish a subsidy and incentive mechanism for grassland ecological protection in eight pastoral provinces and the Xinjiang production and Construction Corps. In 2012, the coverage of the policy was further expanded to all pastoral and semi-pastoral areas. The policy has effectively promoted the coordinated development of economy, society and ecological environment in pastoral areas and increased the income of farmers and herdsmen.
