When the leaf buds of camellias germinate, the residual flowers should be removed in time, and the rotten and dilute liquid fertilizer dominated by nitrogen fertilizer should be applied three or four times a week to promote the germination and growth of new shoots; when the flower buds of new branches begin to differentiate and form buds in May, they should be pruned, too long branches, cut off the top section, promote axillary buds to germinate into branches, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer at the same time, applying once every 10 days or so for about a month.

The number of buds and the differentiation period of flower buds vary with different varieties. Generally, the oval buds that appear at the top of the branches after July are flower buds, while the conical buds growing in leaf axils (a few grow at the tip) are leaf buds. When the buds grow to the size of soybeans, the deformed and thin buds can be thinned out in stages, leaving only 1-2 buds per branch, buds with less than 5 leaves should be removed, and nitrogen application rate should be controlled at the same time.

The application of dilute phosphate fertilizer twice from September to October promoted the further growth of flower buds. At ordinary times, when the leaves are generally yellow, they should also be applied properly. When the leaves are dark green, fertilizer should be stopped. The new branches that grow after autumn should be cut off in time.
