Nowadays, it has entered winter, especially in the recent period of time, the temperature has been relatively low. For those who like to plant calamus in pots, this is certainly not good news. Many people are worried that, admittedly, the weather has continued to decline recently, if you do not know whether Acorus calamus can withstand such continuous low temperature weather, then it is necessary to take a good look at this article.

As for the cold tolerance of Acorus calamus in winter, there is a difference between wild and indoor artificial cultivation. Take Acorus calamus, for example, if it has been growing in the wild, even if the winter temperature is below 0 °C, it will not be frostbitten to death. However, if it is indoor artificial pot cultivation of Acorus calamus, its cold protection ability is very poor, when it continues to encounter low temperature weather, it is easy to produce frost injury. Yellow leaves will appear at first, but if ignored, they will then appear to wither.

At the same time, there are differences in cold tolerance among different varieties of calamus. In the like, we need to recognize water calamus and Acorus tatarinowii separately.

In general, the cold tolerance of Acorus calamus is relatively poor, in winter, if it is not artificially provided with warm measures, its leaves will often wither with the gradual decrease of the temperature. However, when the temperature warms up in the spring next year, the old plants will sprout new seedlings. As long as the conditions are suitable, the new seedlings tend to grow faster, and the leaves will soon grow to 100 centimeters in length. At that time, a piece of green onions will appear in a new manner.

For Acorus tatarinowii, its cold tolerance is slightly stronger than that of Acorus calamus in winter. As long as the temperature is kept above 8 °C, there is generally no phenomenon of stem and leaf wilting. If it is the southern region, it generally does not deliberately provide warm measures for it; but if it is the northern region, because the temperature environment is relatively bad, it is necessary to take timely measures to keep warm from the cold, otherwise it will soon wither as the temperature goes down.

As for the warm measures of calamus bonsai, we can choose to cover the small potted plants with large pots, and then move the large and small pots into a relatively warm place indoors, so as to reduce the risk of freezing injury. In the basin soil, only need to keep the soil moisture, can not let it too wet, but slightly dry state. Moreover, the watering frequency should be determined by the dry and wet state of the basin soil, and it is appropriate to replenish water in the case of relatively high temperature during the day. Of course, it is also necessary to avoid long periods of direct sunlight in winter, otherwise it will increase the risk of overwintering.
