Last Updated: 2024/11/06, General Zhang Xueliang made his first public appearance in Taiwan in the 1960s at a flower show at a children's park in Taipei. Since then, when orchids are in full bloom at the end of the year and the beginning of the year, some orchid nurseries in Taipei will often receive a call saying, "there is an old Mr. Zhao coming to enjoy the flowers." About half an hour later, a car came along and walked out.

Zhang Xueliang's "Ode to Orchid" has a reputation all over the world and settled in thousands of families. Ye Li contains righteousness, but flowers are not flashy. Evergreen fighting cold, smiling summer. A true gentleman in flowers, elegant bearing.

General Zhang Xueliang's first public appearance after arriving in Taiwan was at a flower show at Taipei City Children's Park in the 1960s. From then on, whenever orchids bloom at the end of the year, some orchids in Taipei City will often receive calls saying,"Mr. Chao wants to come and enjoy the flowers." About half an hour later, a car drove up and an elderly man with gray hair and an extraordinary bearing stepped out. This "Old Mr. Zhao" is General Zhang Ziliang. He has visited almost all of Taipei's urban and suburban Orchid Gardens, which are slightly more famous. And if it is, then every single one of them will come. Zhang Xueliang looked at orchids very carefully and commented on orchids. He said that he was very good at it. Once he saw a pot of exotic flowers in an orchid garden and asked for a price. The host saw that it was a gentle and willing old man, and casually said that the price was eight thousand yuan. Unexpectedly, Zhang Xueliang promised to buy it one day. The flower owner had nothing to say. Later, the flower owner knew that the buyer was Zhang Xueliang and thought that the famous flower had a master. He was full of joy and shouted: Worth it, worth it! In the early 1980s, Zhang Xueliang, in an interview with Taipei's "United Daily News" reporter Yu Heng, confided his love for orchid: "My family has more than 200 pots of orchids. Raising orchids is a pleasure. Such as watering, fertilizing, moving flowers, moderate shade and moderate sunlight. Because of orchid cultivation, I bought books and magazines about orchids and consulted experts in the field." He said,"The flowers are beautiful, and the flowers are beautiful." Because of this, I feel that Lan's realm is far away. Not only do I like it, my wife likes it too." From here, you can see the feelings of General Zhang Xueliang.

Zhang Xueliang and Huang Xiuqiu, president of Taiwan Orchid Association, are enjoying orchids

In April 1993, Beijing held the third flower fair, General Zhang specially entrusted Mr. Huang Xiuqiu, president of the World Orchid Exchange Association, to bring a pot of Chinese orchid to Chairman ***. The chairman thanked him kindly. Zhang Xueliang, known as "Young Marshal", was not only associated with war and patriotism, but also treated people and things with gentlemanly demeanor. If only from the "Xi'an Incident" point of view, he is undoubtedly a great man. In fact, he is not only such a person, but also full of human feelings, can be called the best. However, ordinary people probably would not have thought that he and Orchid also had deep feelings. The famous orchid inscription "Patriotic Orchid" was cultivated by him. It's a long story. In November 1946, on a bleak autumn day, Zhang Xueliang, who had shocked China and foreign countries by launching the Xi'an Incident and was called a "meritorious minister through the ages" by Premier Zhou Enlai, was secretly sent to Taiwan. When Taiwan was under lockdown, there was still no orchid culture craze in Taiwan, and Chang Hsueh-liang did his homework every day--reading history books. As the saying goes,"reading history tells you the rise and fall." After 1970, he often compared himself to the orchid in the secluded realm, kept company with the orchid, and devoted himself to planting orchids. When he had nothing to do, Zhang Xueliang read a large number of orchid books and chanted poems and eulogized orchids. He was not putting on a show or pursuing elegance. These were not important to celebrities like him. What was more important was that in the process of planting orchids, he tasted the interest of life and cultivated his character. On September 18,1981,81-year-old Zhang Xueliang was interviewed by professional reporters for the first time after the Xi'an Incident. Yu Heng, a reporter from United Daily News, talked with him about the past. Zhang Xueliang was silent. He estimated that he felt that there was nothing to say about those things. History would give him an explanation. However, when it comes to orchid cultivation and appreciation, he is full of enthusiasm. When it comes to reading books and newspapers, he said he only reads two newspapers and one issue, one of which is Orchid World magazine. He said: "Writing poetry can express ambition, raising orchids like drinking alcohol mash, the most can send emotion to solve the meaning, to reach the state of all worries." Once, Zhang Xueliang and people said orchid, he said frankly: "I love the first lady, the second love orchid." This seems to be an exaggeration. I mean, it shows how much he loves orchids. In 1990, Zhang Xueliang's freedom was increased after the ban was lifted. Taiwan holds orchid exhibitions all year round. There are many family orchids and professional orchids gardens. He will go to every exhibition and visit all major orchids like today's fans. Taipei City orchid garden and orchid exhibition organizing committee often receive such a phone call: there is a "Mr. Zhao" to go to admire orchids. Needless to say, this "Old Mr. Zhao" is General Zhang Xueliang. Half an hour later, a white car drove into Orchid Garden and an elderly couple got off. The man was tall, with gray hair, a ruddy face, a loud voice, and a pair of sunglasses. He had an extraordinary bearing. Over time, people in the blue world received a phone call from "Mr. Zhao" and knew that the once powerful "Zhang Shaoshuai" was coming to the door. They all felt, admired and sighed. Zhang Xueliang not only indulged himself in orchids for more than 30 years, but when he left Taiwan and moved to Hawaii in the United States, although he was old and physically exhausted, he still asked people to bring many of his fine orchids. In addition, he also spared no effort to tell everyone about the perception of orchid, in order to carry forward the profound orchid culture drum and call. In Zhang Xueliang's history of orchid cultivation, there is also a good story about the "Patriotic" basin orchid presented to the chairman. On April 21, 1993, the Third China Flower Expo opened in Beijing. At this Expo, Taiwan World Exchange Association specially set up the exhibition hall of "General Zhang Xueliang and Orchids". At 8:00 p.m. on April 25, Chairman Jiang arrived at the exhibition hall of General Zhang Xueliang and Orchids. Three large colored photos of General Zhang Xueliang raising orchids hung on the front wall of the exhibition hall. Chairman Jiang carefully examined them for a while and said,"It seems that Mr. Zhang is in good spirits." At this time, Huang Xiuqiu, the head of the Orchid Association entrusted by Zhang Xueliang, walked forward with a pot of orchids and said to Chairman Jiang: "This pot of orchids is called Patriotic Orchid. General Zhang has cultivated it for more than 20 years and personally named it 'Patriotic No.', and now I present it to you." President Jiang took the flowers and said,"Thank you. I wish Mr. Zhang good health!" for a time, the gift of potted orchids to president jiang by the "patriotic ship" became a hot topic for media on both sides of the strait. the media said: this move "expresses general zhang's deep feelings for compatriots on the mainland, and will become a good story in the history of orchid cultivation in our country." On the occasion of the Seventh Orchid Expo in China (Guangxi) in 1997, Zhang Xueliang, who was far away in Hawaii, entrusted Mr. Huang Xiuqiu to present five pots of orchids he planted by himself to participate in the exhibition. Zhang Xueliang, who was 96 years old, spent 30 gold medals inlaid with gold medals to reward the gold medal winners participating in the exhibition. Of course, General Zhang Xueliang's love of orchids is not due to his enthusiasm, but has a deep historical origin. The story of Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si spread with the TV series "Miss Zhao Si." Many people may not know that their love is related to orchids. They are Christians, and according to Christian doctrine, believers cannot have two wives at the same time when they are baptized. Zhang Xueliang had to choose between Yu Fengzhi and Miss Zhao Si. Zhang Xueliang sent a letter to Yu Fengzhi on the other side of the ocean. Yu Fengzhi wrote in his reply: "Hanqing, as long as you are happy, I am willing to do anything!" Zhao Yidi is a very rare woman…"People's feelings are like orchids. After this, when talking about Yu Fengzhi, Zhao Yidi still admires his generosity. July 4, 1964 was an extraordinary day for General Zhang Xueliang. On this day, he will form a lifelong partner with Miss Zhao Si, who has been in love with him for 30 years and accompanied him through 27 years of strict "control". On this day, Zhang Xueliang, 60 years old, put on a navy blue jacket and a pair of red soft flat shoes on his feet. There was still something heroic about his bright eyes and extraordinary air. Miss Zhao Si also excitedly looked at the mirror non-stop, just like the excitement when she first met the young marshal_that was many years ago, and it passed in a flash. At the moment, they also want to hold a special wedding-orchid wedding to decorate themselves with orchids, decorate the wedding scene. Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si both like orchids very much. For decades, they have been in and out of the orchids world, and apart from appreciating orchids, they have never talked about anything else, often leaving after talking about orchids. Every morning and dusk, Zhang Xueliang and his wife watered, fertilized and cultivated soil in the garden, and orchids accompanied them with a sunrise and sunset. Both of them regard raising orchids as a kind of enjoyment of life. In order to raise orchids, Zhang Xueliang also bought a lot of magazines and books about orchids, consulting some orchid cultivation experts. Their orchids garden has raised more than 200 pots of orchids of various precious varieties, which have been planted and managed by themselves for more than 50 years. Not only raised a large number of traditional Chinese spring orchid species, such as green clouds, Song Mei, Dafugui, etc., but also cultivated Guangdong newspaper year, Fujian Jianlan, Sichuan Chuanjian and other types of orchids. On each pot, they carefully mark the name of the orchid and are proud to own these valuable varieties. Zhang Xueliang said: "Orchid is a gentleman in flowers, its fragrance is also light, its posture is also elegant, because of this, I think the artistic conception of orchid is far away, not only I like, my wife also likes it very much." Speaking of green clouds, here is a story: known as a generation of blue green clouds, it can be said that hard-won, spent Zhang Xueliang how much effort, Zhang Xueliang regarded it as a treasure. It was at an orchid appreciation meeting held in Taiwan in the 1970s that a pot of primrose with bright green flowers made the orchid friends marvel and praise. Surprised envy, Lan friends can get this precious variety for satisfaction, Zhang Xueliang is no exception. When he first saw this orchid on the orchid exhibition, he was greatly dumped. From then on, he kept thinking about it. He investigated openly and secretly for more than a year before he found the orchid master. Therefore, he visited the orchid master several times. His love for the orchid finally moved the master. The orchid master also admired Zhang Xueliang's high prestige and agreed to give up his love. Zhang Xueliang bought it at a high price, and then carefully cultivated and cared for it, popularized it in the world, and made it a generation of famous orchids-green clouds. Since then, green clouds in various sizes of orchid exhibition, frequent appearance, won the praise of Lan friends. On the day of their wedding, the orchids in the garden were in full bloom, with green leaves, some oval, some lanceolate, and heads, some yellow, some pink, some white. Breeze blowing, flowers and leaves swaying, fragrance, refreshing. Zhang Xueliang couldn't help but bend down and pick a snow-white flower. He sniffed it close to his nostrils and felt a strange fragrance penetrate his lungs. He gently inserted the orchid into Miss Zhao's temples. Then, he took a few steps back and examined it carefully for a moment. He smiled and said,"Very good, very beautiful!" With this flower on, you look twenty years younger!" After saying that, he laughed loudly. Then they used orchids as corsage and wore them on their chests. At this time, Miss Zhao Si, although she had passed the year of "knowing destiny", but through her elegant dress and gentle face, she was still radiant. The wedding was held in a Christian church near the hot springs in Beitou, Taiwan. The church is small and ordinary. There were no electric lights in the church, but countless huge candles were lit, and more than a hundred pots of precious orchids were placed around them, making the whole church solemn and beautiful. Surrounded by relatives and friends, Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao solemnly walked into the church. The candlelight shone on the faces of every guest, reflecting the orchids on Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao's chest and their excited faces. In the solemn music sound, Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao Si hand in hand, slowly from the main entrance of the church, frequently nodded to the guests. The wedding took place solemnly in the beautiful sound of music and the faint fragrance of orchids. When the priest sang "exchange ornaments", Miss Zhao Si could no longer control her tears and fell to Zhang Xueliang's arm with a "tick". Zhang Xueliang held the Orchid Ring in his hand and shook it. He couldn't put it into Miss Zhao's finger for a long time. After the wedding, Zhang Xueliang and Miss Zhao walked out of the church slowly and drove back to their residence in a silver wedding carriage decorated with orchids. Zhang, Zhao two orchid wedding, can be called eternal unique song. Half a month later, Taipei's United Daily News published a report in the front page of the third page, with a few lines of headlines, which were very eye-catching: Thirty years of cold and warm years, contemporary frost love Young Marshal Zhao Si officially married Red powder confidant, white head alliance "Zhang Xueliang, who has been isolated from the world for 27 years, recently married Zhao Si," the article read. After marriage, Chang Hsueh-liang and Miss Chao Sze settled down in Peitou, a suburb of Taipei, living in a Western-style villa. Their orchids are as fragrant as their love. they visited many famous orchid growers in taiwan's orchid producing areas. after twenty years of careful selection and conservation, they finally cultivated a famous orchid and named it "patriotic orchid." In his later years, General Chang Hsueh-liang kept his "patriotic orchids" in the Xiuxiang Garden of Huang Xiuqiu, president of the Taiwan Orchid Association. Before Zhang Xueliang died, he thought about the more than 20 pots of orchids he had fostered in Huang Xiuqiu. He made a final wish: bring the "patriotic orchids" back to the mainland of the motherland and let them emit fragrance there! Today, these foster orchids have been sent to many places in the mainland by Huang Xiuqiu!
