Fast-growing paulownia, fast-growing white wax, fast-growing cherry blossoms, fast-growing crape myrtle. In recent years, many conventional varieties of landscaping have appeared its upgraded version-fast-growing varieties. With the growth rate of one or even several times that of the original varieties, they have quickly attracted the attention of the majority of seedling producers and users. It has become an important force in the seedling industry. However, judging from the current development situation, some fast-growing varieties are developing too fast and the planting area is too large, so seedling practitioners need to be more vigilant.

In the case of Liying, Shandong, where the author lives, as the hometown of Fatong, it was planted here in the past. Fast-growing Fatong began to appear around 2003. At first, seedling producers were not optimistic about it, and its promotion speed was lukewarm. A few years later, the farmers who planted fast-growing paulownia at that time found that it grew really fast, and the tree was in a good shape, with a straight trunk and beautiful bark. The production cycle of engineering seedlings of the same specification is shorter than that of common method. As a result, since 2008, more and more seedling operators have joined the production team of fast-growing Fatong, which has been out of control ever since.

Fatong with a breast diameter of 10 cm, the ordinary variety is 120 yuan, and the fast-growing variety is 170 yuan, which is the current market situation of Liying. Because it grows fast, the price is high. Driven by the temptation of "not only growing fast, but also high price", fast-growing Fatong has quickly occupied the seedling base of each Fatong hometown like an "invasive plant" in recent years. Now, Li Ying has rarely seen the common law tung, especially in the seedlings with a breast diameter of less than 8 cm, which is completely fast-growing "dominating the world."

Although the growth rate is fast, compared with the common method, the cold resistance of fast-growing paulownia is slightly worse. In Dandong, Liaoning, the bark of fast-growing paulownia will crack due to freezing in winter. Therefore, at present, the application of fast-growing paulownia is very limited in the northeast, northwest and northern part of North China. In addition, whether the fast-growing Fatong has any other shortcomings remains to be seen.

Fast-growing Fatong from the cultivation to now such a large production scale, no more than 10 years, and its application in the greening market, that is, nearly 5 years or so, other fast-growing tree species may enter the market for a shorter time. Since 2010, the production area of Liying fast-growing paulownia can be described by the word surge, and producers flock to it, of which small and medium-sized seedlings account for the vast majority. The author does not think that fast-growing Fatong is not good, but is afraid of such a large production area and such a rapid development speed, in case there are some problems or even fatal shortcomings in the future, then producers are likely to suffer serious losses.

To identify a new superior variety, it is necessary to understand its characteristics and performance in different regions on the basis of observing its complete life cycle from seed to seed. Even if the new superior variety has been approved, it is likely to gradually find its advantages and disadvantages with its application in different regions and in different ways, and need to be improved slowly according to the situation. In other words, step by step to expand production, promotion and application, is the safe way. From the point of view of maintaining biodiversity and the richness of plant resources, those traditional varieties should not be completely abandoned.

Another phenomenon that requires the attention of seedling operators is that it is only in the past two or three years that fast-growing Fatong trees in Li Ying and even across the country began to expand on a large scale. This kind of large quantities of seedlings of the same varieties and specifications are concentrated on the market, just like thousands of troops crossing a single log bridge, even if they can be sold, it is difficult to maximize benefits. Coupled with the fast-growing paulownia growth rate is very fast, three or five years can be out of the nursery, such a short time, producers want to find enough buyers, it will take a certain amount of time. Therefore, even if the fast-growing paulownia is taken as the main variety, the author also suggests that producers should do more from the use of seedling products, look for different market segments and obtain higher benefits.
