Basil, also known as nine-story tower, is a labial plant, it tastes like fennel, often appears in western food, the whole plant is small, green leaves, bright flowers, high ornamental value, but also can be used as medicine, is a collection of edible, medicinal and ornamental plants. Its market demand is large, the economic benefit is remarkable, many begin to plant it, so how to plant it? Let's take a look.

1. Land selection and fertilization

Basil is a deep-rooted plant, and its root system can stretch 50-100cm at a low level, so when planting the selected plot, we should choose the soil with deep soil layer, loose soil and good drainage, which is beneficial to its root growth. If the soil is too hard or sticky, its root growth will be hindered and its yield will be affected. When planting, it is necessary to apply sufficient basic fertilizer to supply the nutrients needed for its growth, speed up its growth, apply basic fertilizer and rake fine and level it, and then make a flat or high bed around 130cm according to the topography, flat to make a flat border, and higher to make a high border.

2. Sprouting

Due to the short frost-free period, seeds should be germinated in a greenhouse when planting in the open air. Generally, in the middle and last ten days of April, the seeds are put into gauze, soaked in warm water for 5-10 minutes, removed and dried, covered with wet towels, kept warm and moisturized, and put into a greenhouse environment of about 25 degrees to promote germination. When sprouting, rinse the seeds with clean water once a day, keep them clean, and turn them 2-3 times a day to keep the temperature balanced. When the seeds are introduced into the crack to sprout, drop the temperature of the greenhouse by 3-5 degrees to make the buds sturdy and neat, and sow seeds when the buds grow to a certain extent.

3. Sowing seeds

Sowing time is from late April to early May, choose a sunny morning, strip sowing can also be strip sowing, strip sowing needs to open shallow trenches on the border surface. Hole sowing needs to open a hole. Strip sowing is to open a shallow ditch according to the row spacing 30cm, spread the seeds evenly in the ditch, sow the shallow holes according to the hole spacing 25cm, spread 2-3 seeds per hole, cover a thin layer of soil after sowing, and water to keep the soil moist, generally using seeds of 0.2-0.3kg per mu.

4. Field management

When the seedlings grow to 6-10cm, it is necessary to carry out interseedling and seedling replenishment in time, the strip sowing should control the plant spacing 10cm, and the hole sowing should leave 2-3 plants per hole. When the seedlings grow above 10cm, they can be transplanted, and after transplanting, they should step on the soil and step on the soil. In the seedling stage, we should plough and weed 2-3 times to speed up the root growth, and apply a thin human and animal dung water after each intertillage. The seedlings are afraid of drought and should do a good job in water management.
