The outer skin of asparagus seed is relatively thick and hard, and there is a layer of wax in the outer layer, so it is difficult to absorb water, so growers will soak and accelerate seed germination before sowing, which can effectively improve the germination rate, enhance the germination potential of seed geese and reduce the planting cost. So how to promote germination of asparagus seeds? Let's take a look.

1. Seed drying

On a sunny day before sowing, place the seeds on the cloth with a thickness of 1-2cm, expose them to the sun for 2-3 days, and turn them several times when drying. Drying seeds can kill the germs carried on the seed surface, effectively prevent the bacteria from entering the plant, and improve the germination rate.

2. Soaking seeds

Put the seeds in clean water, fish out the inferior seeds that float on the surface, and soak the seeds in warm hot water of 40-50 degrees. Soaking is to repeatedly rub the seed epidermis with your hands to break the wax on its surface. When the color of the seed surface changes and small grooves have already appeared, the wax on the surface of the seed has been removed. Then remove the seeds and wash them, then soak them in warm water of 20-30 degrees. Generally soak for 2-3 days and change water 1-2 times a day.

3. Seed disinfection

Diseases are the main factors affecting the growth, development, yield and quality of asparagus, and many diseases are caused by germs carried by seeds. Therefore, in order to prevent diseases, the seeds should be disinfected and sterilized before sowing. Generally, after diluting 10 grams of carbendazim with 2.5 liters of water, the seeds can be soaked for 24 hours, which can eliminate most of the germs.

4. Sprouting

Accelerating germination is an important step to shorten the emergence time through the germination rate of seeds. The soaked seeds are fished out, placed in a tile basin and covered with a layer of wet cloth. Put the tile basin in a greenhouse environment of about 25 degrees, or you can also use an incubator. In order to increase air permeability and prevent seeds from dying from lack of oxygen, they should be washed with warm water every morning and evening. About 2-3 days later, a small number of seeds can be sown when they begin to show white. If most of the seeds are sown when they are exposed to white, some seeds are exposed earlier and the radicle grows too long, which is easy to bruise when sowing and affect the emergence of seedlings.
