Red-skinned potatoes originated in South America and now have a certain planting area in the south of China. Red-skinned potatoes are pink in color, rich in trace elements and adequate in nutrients. It has a series of effects such as antioxidation, anti-cancer and lowering blood pressure. And its taste is more glutinous and flour than ordinary potatoes. How do red potatoes grow? The following small series brings you the planting technology of red-skinned potatoes. Let's have a look together!

1. Soil selection and preparation

The primary requirement for red-skinned potatoes is to ensure that the soil is sufficiently loose, because the tubers of red-skinned potatoes are relatively large and the consumption of oxygen will increase. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the soil is soft enough, the permeability is strong, the soil PH value is controlled at about 5.2-7.8, and the saline-alkali resistance of red-skinned potatoes is strong. Therefore, we should ensure that the soil is high, soft and deep and well drained when selecting soil. Then carry on the soil preparation, the soil preparation depth shall not be less than 25 cm, do a good job of suppressing and preserving soil moisture, and improve the permeability of soil and the ability to preserve water and fertilizer.

2. Select sowing

When preparing the soil, it is necessary to apply sufficient base fertilizer, which is mainly fully decomposed farm manure, and the dosage per mu is controlled at about 2500kg, which should be evenly sprinkled with sufficient nutrition. After soil preparation, the left and right seed stems of the red-skinned potato with no damage on the surface, no diseases and insect pests and high yield are selected, and are put indoors half a month before sowing to enable the seed stems to enter a dormant period for germination. After germination, the local temperature can rise to 8 degrees or more to start sowing, sowing time around Qingming Festival, pay attention to control the sowing density, ridging sowing. Do not sow too densely to prevent plants from blocking each other and affecting light absorption.

3. Water and fertilizer management

Red-skinned potatoes need more water than 5 times in the whole growth period, but we should pay attention to the amount and method of watering, mainly with small drops of water. After the seedlings are unearthed, water them in time to promote the growth of seedlings, and then water them well in the bud stage, flowering stage and other stages with large water demand, so as to avoid water shortage affecting the growth of red-skinned potatoes. And also need timely topdressing, red potato demand for potassium is large, so in topdressing time to increase the proportion of potassium in fertilizer, control the amount of nitrogen, prevent plants from excessive growth. The main topdressing stages were bud stage, tuber formation stage and swelling stage, which were the times when the nutrient requirements of red-skinned potato were maximum.

4. Field management

Soils with sufficient porosity and permeability are very helpful for the growth of red-skinned potatoes and the formation and expansion of tubers, so intertillage and weeding are very important. We have to carry out the first weeding work after the seedlings are complete, because the seedlings are not large at this time, weeds are easy to be found, and shallow hoeing can achieve the goal. Then, when the seedlings grow to about 24 cm, the intertillage and weeding work are carried out again to promote the growth of red-skinned potatoes and accelerate the development of tubers. The buds of red-skinned potatoes are useless, and the plants on the ground will compete with tubers for nutrients during the growth period, so we have to remove the buds in time to promote tuber growth and reduce nutrient consumption.

We should pay attention to the bud picking time, when the plant has about 28% of the flowers in full bloom when we should start picking flowers. Twice a week or so, can effectively improve the yield of red potato. The yield of red-skinned potatoes is closely related to our management, so we must master good management techniques before planting to improve our planting efficiency.
