Lettuce is one of the most common green leafy vegetables in our life. The tender leaves and autumn leaves of lettuce can be eaten raw, hence the name lettuce. Nowadays, when people eat barbecue or hot pot, lettuce is almost always a necessary vegetable. Therefore, the market for lettuce is getting bigger and bigger, and now there are more and more people growing lettuce, but there are certain requirements for environmental conditions for growing lettuce. Next, let the editor take you to understand the environmental requirements of lettuce.

1. Temperature

Lettuce is not suitable to grow in high temperature environment, it is a kind of cool and frost-tolerant vegetable. After sowing, the temperature can be controlled above 5 degrees to germinate, and the most suitable germination temperature is about 18 degrees. If it is lower than 15 degrees, the germination speed will be affected to a certain extent, and sooner or later, if it is higher than 30 degrees, the seed coat will be hard and the germination rate will decrease. The growth temperature after germination should not be lower than 12 degrees, but the lowest temperature that seedlings can withstand is about 4 degrees. If the temperature is higher than 22 degrees, lettuce is prone to early bolting, which reduces the yield and quality. Generally speaking, during the whole growth period of lettuce, the temperature should be controlled at 18-22 degrees.

2. Lighting

Lettuce demand for light is relatively large, in planting to ensure that there is enough light, if the lack of light, lettuce growth will be greatly hindered, the leaves are thin, the leaf ball is not compact and will reduce the yield. Therefore, when we plant, we should pay attention to the planting density, not too dense, so as to prevent the light absorption of lettuce from being affected, resulting in only long leaves without heading. But the light should not be too strong, if the inner leaves are exposed to direct sunlight, it will also reduce the ball setting rate. Therefore, in the summer, we should also do a good job of shading, strengthen management, and ensure planting efficiency.

3. Moisture

The root distribution of lettuce is not deep, and the leaf area is large, so the rate of water evaporation is relatively fast, and lettuce is sensitive to the water content of the soil surface. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure sufficient water in the whole growth period of lettuce, but lettuce has different water requirements in different growth stages. For example, when the seedling stage, water should not be too much, to prevent the aging of seedlings, causing the phenomenon of prosperous growth. During the heading period, it is necessary to ensure sufficient moisture, the lack of water will reduce the quality of lettuce, resulting in small leaf balls and bitter taste. After heading, it is necessary to control moisture to prevent excessive moisture from causing leaf ball cracking.

4. Nutrition

The nutrient absorption capacity of lettuce is not strong, and the demand for soil oxygen content is high, so we should choose sandy soil with high topography, normal drainage and irrigation, sufficient fertility and strong permeability. The content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in soil is very important for the growth of lettuce. And because of the short growth cycle and high yield of lettuce, the demand for nutrition is very large, so we should ensure adequate nutrition in planting. To improve the consumption of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, but also to properly supplement calcium and magnesium and other micro-fertilizers, the lack of any kind of nutrition will affect the growth of lettuce, resulting in various problems.

The above is a brief introduction to the environmental requirements of lettuce. It should be noted that we cannot choose plots with rainfall and potholes when choosing soil. Otherwise, it is easy to accumulate water, which will lead to root rot of lettuce and diseases and insect pests such as downy mildew and root rot. It seriously harms the growth of lettuce, resulting in the decrease of yield and quality. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
