Artichoke is a plant of Compositae, which is native to Europe and has a wide planting area in Europe and the United States. It was first introduced into China from Italy, so a small number of provinces in Hunan and Taiwan also have a certain range of distribution. Artichoke has various functions such as treating constipation and promoting digestion. It is a kind of vegetable with high edible value. So how to plant artichokes? The following editor has brought the planting technology of artichoke, let's have a look!

1. Sowing and raising seedlings

Artichoke mainly sows and raises seedlings, and generally begins to sow in spring and autumn, and the number of seeds per mu is kept at about 700. However, because the seed coat of artichoke is relatively hard, we should do a good job of soaking seeds before sowing. First soak the seeds in warm water of about 50 degrees for half an hour, and stir the seeds differently in the soaking process to ensure that the seeds are heated evenly. Then soak it for about 13-15 hours at room temperature. After soaking, it will be removed and wrapped with a wet cloth at a temperature of about 22 degrees Celsius for budding. After the seeds are gradually whitened, they can begin to sow and manage well after sowing. The seedling stage of artichoke is no more than two months, and it can be planted when about 6 true leaves grow.

2. Land preparation and planting

In order to choose a good planting field before planting, we must first choose his flat sandy soil, which is deep and fertile, soft and transparent and without potholes. Remove the residue of the previous crop of soil, do a good job of soil preparation, carry out deep ploughing, and keep the depth of ploughing at about 22 cm. After soil preparation, the row spacing should be controlled to make the bed, and the appropriate amount of base fertilizer should be applied according to the soil area. The base fertilizer is mainly farm manure, and then it can be properly planted when the average soil temperature is above 13 degrees. When planting, the row spacing should be controlled to prevent planting from being too dense. The planting depth is about 22 cm. After planting, it is necessary to irrigate enough fixed root water.

3. Seedling management

After planting, pay attention to observe the growth of seedlings, when the seedlings slow down, they should be watered in time to meet the water needs of seedling growth. Then reasonable topdressing, topdressing should pay attention to the method of topdressing, should not be directly applied to the root of the plant, should be ditched around the plant to prevent fertilizer from burning roots. Good control of the proportion of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the fertilizer, not excessive application, to prevent fertilizer damage. Then in the rainy season, we should pay attention to drainage, timely ploughing and weeding to prevent weeds from grabbing the growth and nutrition of artichokes. It is necessary to pour enough water for overwintering in October or so, and stop watering after the end of November to prepare for overwintering.

4. Overwintering management

When artichoke overwinters, it is necessary to use different overwintering methods according to different planting areas. For example, artichokes cannot survive the winter on their own at the temperature in the north. Therefore, the method of artificial warming should be adopted to remove the leaves from the plant when the frost comes out for the first time. When the temperature drops to about 4 degrees, cut off the upper-middle leaves and keep the base. Then cultivate the soil in time to increase the soil temperature and prevent the artichoke from freezing damage caused by too low temperature. Cover the soil with a layer of grain straw and press another layer of soil to prepare the northern artichokes for overwintering.

The above is a brief introduction of artichoke planting technology, artichoke planting method is relatively simple. When the temperature rises gradually in spring after overwintering, it is necessary to clear the cover map in time, remove the grain straw, then loosen the soil, improve the soil temperature, strengthen the management of water and fertilizer, and restore the growth of artichoke.
