Malan is a popular wild vegetable on the market at present, which is called Malantou or red stem vegetable in many places. Malan has a wide range of distribution, basically all over the country, mainly in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. Malan has the characteristics of easy planting, easy management and high yield, but there are several points we need to pay attention to in the planting process. Let's take a look at what it is.

1. Time

If you want to eat fresh, authentic Malan vegetables, then the planting time is very necessary to know. Generally speaking, the time of sowing Malan is between August and October every year, and the Malan planted during this time can be harvested and eaten around March and April of the following year. Of course, some places are also planted during the period from February to May every year, because the light and temperature during this period are also very suitable for growing Malan, so you can pay attention to it.

2. Seed selection

Malan planting is generally divided into two types: seed direct seeding and rhizome propagator. We have to choose the seeds of Malan that are full of grains and free from diseases and insect pests, and then soak the seeds in warm water for a day and a night before sowing. If we use rhizome propagation, we need to dig out the rhizome of Malan, try not to hurt the root system of Malan, otherwise it will affect the survival rate of Malan.

3. Soil

Malan is a wild vegetable with strong resistance, but if the soil fertility is sufficient, the soil is relatively soft, the air permeability and water retention are good, the yield and quality of Malan will be better. Secondly, we also need to pay attention to that it is best to do some land improvement when preparing the soil, adding appropriate amount of organic fertilizer or other fertilizers to the soil to improve the soil quality. Finally, flat or high beds are made according to the topography and topography of the planting area.

4. Moisture

If we use seeds to sow, we should water the soil after sowing and cover it with a layer of plastic film for heat preservation and moisturizing. After the seeds germinate, the plastic film should be removed in time, and then irrigated reasonably according to the moisture of the soil. In the process of the growth of Malan, we also need to water frequently, which can improve the growth rate of Malan. If it is rhizome propagation, we need to water after planting, which can improve the survival rate of Malan.

5. Fertilization

After Malan has survived, in order to promote its growth, we need to take measures of topdressing, so we should pay attention to the use of fertilizer species and amount of fertilizer casually. Under normal circumstances, we carry out two or three times of topdressing, each time is basically urea-based, and with the use of potash fertilizer. The amount of urea per mu is about 20 jin, the amount of potash fertilizer is about 5 jin, the amount of fertilizer should not be too much, in order to avoid burning seedlings.

When we plant Malan, in fact, we also need to pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests, such as leaf spot, we can use plant ash for prevention and control. Secondly, we also need to pay attention to the time of harvest. Normally, we harvest every year in April and May and from October to November, when Ma Lan is the freshest.
