A few days ago, the Rubber Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences sent good news from the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. China's first overseas oil palm introduction trial project has achieved initial success. Oil palm trees grow well, the forest is neat, and the fruit rate is high, the ear is large, and the fruit is full, free from diseases, insect pests and wind damage. From the growth performance of oil palm planted at different times, oil palm trees can blossom and bear fruit 2 years after self-planting, and the yield potential is great. The annual output of oil palm trees planted from 2008 to 2010 is more than 4500 jin per mu. According to the oil production rate of 20%, the yield of crude palm oil per mu is more than 900jin, far exceeding the world average yield of 498jin.

It is understood that the Rubber Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences has been involved in the initial construction of the Vanuatu oil palm planting project since 2005, undertaking the tasks of oil palm introduction and seedling cultivation. At present, the Rubber Institute has successively signed memorandums of scientific and technological cooperation with Vanuatu Palm Oil Co., Ltd., and Vanuatu National Bureau of Agriculture.
