Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Cowpea, also known as cowpea, is one of our daily common vegetables, which can be divided into cowpea and rice cowpea. So how to grow cowpeas? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction. 1. Land selection cowpea itself is more resistant to poverty.

Cowpea, also known as beans, is one of our daily common vegetables, can be divided into two kinds of cowpea and rice, cowpea farmers in China are more. So how do cowpeas grow? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction.

1. Land selection

Cowpea itself is more resistant to barren soil, so the requirements for soil are not high, general soil can be planted, but in order to yield and quality, should choose flat terrain, sufficient light, good drainage, good permeability of soil. In order to promote cowpea growth, soil preparation should be done before planting, loose soil, beneficial to cowpea growth, if soil fertility is insufficient, basal fertilizer can be applied to supplement fertility, generally 2000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu.

2. Sowing time

Cowpea likes warm climate, can be planted in spring to autumn, can also be planted through greenhouse technology throughout the year, generally planted in February to August, this stage of temperature suitable for cowpea growth, but the best in March to July. However, the climate environment varies from place to place, so it should be carried out according to the local climate conditions when sowing, avoiding the low temperature season.

3. Sowing

First of all, we should select high-quality varieties for sowing. When sowing, we usually adopt the method of dibbling. Open holes according to the row spacing of 40×50 cm, plant 2-seeds per hole, and cover 1-2 cm soil after sowing. After covering the soil, irrigate enough water, cover the plastic film to keep warm and moist, so as to facilitate seedling emergence, but pay attention to direct seeding in summer, it is not suitable to cover the plastic film, so as not to cause seed germination failure due to high temperature under the film, otherwise, it is better to pay attention to high temperature adverse seed germination, water frequently, keep the soil moist, so as to facilitate seedling emergence.

4. Field management

At the initial stage of sowing and transplanting, attention should be paid to water management to ensure seedling emergence or survival rate. For direct seeding, attention should be paid to timely thinning. When 3-4 true leaves grow, seedlings should be fixed. Generally, two strong seedlings should be kept per mu. If seedlings are found to be lacking, timely supplement seedlings to ensure uniform seedlings. Before pulling vines, frames should be erected in time to ensure good permeability in the field. At the same time, attention should be paid to removing old leaves and yellow leaves to improve ventilation in the field. After seedling setting, topdressing should be applied in time. A lot of nutrients are needed during vine pulling period and flowering and fruiting period. Fertilization should be applied in time to ensure sufficient nutrients.
