Onion is a main side dish in China, which can be used for seasoning or fried directly. The nutritional value of onions is very high, so its market demand is also very large. Therefore, there are still many people growing onions, and when planting onions, the work of raising seedlings is very important. However, there are a lot of problems in raising seedlings. So what are the specific ones? The following editor brings you the main problems of onion breeding, let's have a look!

1. Temperature problem

Onions like to grow in a cool and dry environment, and seeds usually germinate at a temperature of about 4 degrees. However, the most suitable germination temperature is about 16-17 degrees, and the suitable temperature for seedling growth is about 12-20 degrees. If the temperature exceeds 25 degrees, the growth rate will slow down. And onion is a kind of green vernalization vegetable. When the green onion diameter of the seedlings grows to about 0.8cm, it can be vernalized within a period of time at a temperature of 9-10 degrees. And onion bulb expansion and flowering are conditions that require warm and long sunshine. Therefore, attention must be paid to the sowing date and seedling stage management of onions to avoid the phenomenon of early bolting.

2. Sowing problem

Although onions can be planted in both the north and the south, there is a big gap in sowing time. For example, when planting in South China, it is usually sown in the near winter. If planted in the Yangtze River Basin, it is mainly sown in autumn, while in Northeast China, it is mainly sown in spring. Except for spring sowing, sowing time needs to be strictly controlled. Prevent seedlings from overgrowing at low temperatures in winter, thus feeling low temperatures and vernalization. Therefore, autumn sowing should not be premature. The more you go north, the earlier the autumn sowing time will be, and vice versa.

3. Germination problem

Onion seeds are so small that they are not very easy to sprout after sowing. So it is necessary to maintain a very soft, fertile and water-holding soil. However, before sowing, seeds usually do not need to soak seeds to accelerate germination, but can be sowed directly with dried seeds. At the same time, the life span of onion seeds is very short, so the seeds should be dominated by new seeds, and the sowing amount per mu should be kept at about 250g. Keep the soil moist after sowing, and the seeds can be unearthed after about 9 days. Attention should be paid to the work of interseedling after seedling completion.

After sowing, it takes about two months to plant. At this time, the height of the seedlings is generally about 20cm. When raising seedlings, we should not only pay attention to controlling the sowing date. There are two more points that we should pay more attention to. First of all, in the seedling stage, we should pay attention to fertilization, usually not before planting. Prevent seedlings from growing too big when they are planted. Then attention should be paid to weeding to prevent excessive weeds from affecting the normal growth of onion seedlings.

The above is a brief introduction to the main problems of onion breeding. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. I hope it can help you all.
