Wheat scab, also known as wheat ear blight, rotten wheat head, red wheat head, can cause seedling blight, ear rot, stem base rot and culm rot, from seedlings to adult plants, the most serious is ear rot. So what are the symptoms of scab? How to prevent and cure it? Let's get to know it.

Symptoms of the disease

1. Seedling withering

It is caused by the infection of germs in seeds, soil or diseased bodies, first the buds turn brown, then the root cap decays, the seedlings turn yellow and moist, and when the humidity is high, the dead seedlings will produce pink mildew.

2. Ear rot

When the wheat poplar blossoms, it produces a water-soaked brown on the spike, which gradually spreads to the whole spike, causing the spikelet to wither and yellow, and the disease spot produces a pink gelatinous mildew layer when the humidity is high. In the later stage, there will be small blue-black particles in the area, which can not be erased with the touch of the hand, and will also extend to the ear axis, making the disease above the ear form a withered ear.

3. Stem base rot

The disease can occur only when the young seedlings are unearthed, and the base of the stem will turn brown and rot until the whole plant dies.

4. Pole rot

It usually occurs in the 1-2 nodes under the panicle, and at the initial stage, there are water-stained chlorotic spots on the leaf sheath, or irregular spots gradually expand into light brown or reddish brown. When the condition is serious, it will cause withering and yellowing above the diseased part, sometimes unable to heading in time or withdrawing withered yellow panicles, and pink mildew layer appears in the diseased part when it is wet.

II. Prevention and control measures

1. Select varieties with strong disease resistance.

At present, although there are no immune varieties, but there are some disease-resistant varieties, growers can choose suitable varieties according to local conditions.

2. Agricultural prevention and control

Reasonable drainage and irrigation, ditching and drainage in wetlands, timely clearing of fields after harvest, reducing bacterial sources, timely sowing, avoiding rain during flowering period, rational fertilization, promoting compost made by enzyme bacteria retting, adopting formula fertilization technology, and avoiding partial application of nitrogen fertilizer to improve plant disease resistance.

3. Chemical control

Spraying carbendazim or carbendazim before sowing, spraying carbendazim or carbendazim every 5-7, or spraying chlorpyrifos, aldicarb, aldicarb and potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution in the later stage, the control effect is better.
