More than 1 million jin of wheat in the granary has been piled into a pointed hill, and there has been a bumper harvest, but the brow of Peng Zhihe, a big grain grower in Runan County, Henan Province, has turned into a pimple. "I have been a farmer all my life, looking forward to a full grain warehouse year after year, but I can't sell it after a bumper harvest this year, which makes people nervous." Peng Zhihe said.

The reporter interviewed and learned in many places in central and southern Henan Province that due to continuous rainfall during the wheat harvest this year, the high incidence of wheat scab and black embryo disease, and imperfect grains exceeding the standard, the quality of wheat generally failed to meet the state purchase standards, resulting in a backlog of grain in Zhumadian, Nanyang, and other traditional summer grain producing areas in Henan, in the hands of large growers and grain brokers, resulting in the problem of "difficult to sell grain."

A large grain grower in Nanyang contracted more than 2000 mu of wheat this year. At present, there is no place to sell more than 2 million jin of wheat, and it has been overstocked for nearly one and a half months. "all the wheat was sold out on June 20 last year, but there are still so many unsold so far this year. I never thought it would be so difficult to sell grain," she said. " In order to ensure that the wheat overstocked in the warehouse does not continue to mildew and deteriorate, she uses ventilation continuously every day. The cost of electricity alone is about 600 yuan, and it is estimated that she has lost nearly 300000 yuan so far.

Grain brokers face the same problem. Zhang Xiaowu, a grain broker in Zhongzhuang Village, Runan County, snapped up 1.2 million jin of wheat at a price of 1.1yuan per jin this year, but unexpectedly there was no way to sell it, so it could only be stacked in the open air. In more than a month, at least 5 per cent of the wheat had been moldy and deteriorated. "now, as long as someone comes to collect the grain and I sell it at a loss, I can't let the grain go bad, but no one buys it at all." Zhang Xiaowu said. Li Yong, a grain broker, has a backlog of 1.1 million jin of wheat. Li Yong estimates that so far, the storage cost plus mildew loss has lost at least 200000 yuan.

Li Ming, director of the purchase and sales Planning Department of the Henan Provincial Company of China Grain Storage, said that under the circumstances of low demand in the grain market, Zhumadian, Nanyang, Xinyang and other areas in central and southern Henan Province were affected by the weather this year, and although the wheat had a bumper harvest, the quality of wheat was not high. The harvested wheat sprouts, diseased grains, and moldy grains seriously exceeded the standard.

Li Ming said: judging from the current acquisition situation, nearly 80% of the imperfect grains of wheat in Nanyang City exceed the standard, and the quality of wheat in Runan, Pingyu and other southern areas of Zhumadian City is generally on the low side, while Xinyang wheat basically does not meet the purchasing standards of supporting the market. The quality of wheat is not up to the national purchase standard, which leads to the dilemma of "difficult to sell grain" and "difficult to harvest grain" at present. As of July 19, Henan Province had purchased 6.08 million tons of wheat, 40 per cent less than in the same period last year.

Under the double problems of difficult to sell grain and difficult to collect grain, many growers and grain departments call on the state to introduce policies to help solve the problem of selling grain. Li Jinzhou, head of the supervision section of the central grain reserves directly under Nanyang, said: "the grain storage conditions of farmers and brokers are limited. If the wheat stock continues to be overstocked, it will become worms and mildew, and the grain loss will be even more serious." "it is really distressing that the grain that has been planted so hard has been wasted, which makes the big grain growers have the confidence to continue growing grain." Peng Zhihe said.

At present, the Henan Provincial Company of China Grain Storage has introduced color selection instruments to improve the screening and filtering ability, ensure the full collection of receivables, and reduce farmers' losses. at the same time, it has also tried to help farmers establish a purchase-sales relationship with processing enterprises and increase the market-oriented purchase volume.
