Sesame is a common food in life. It cannot be fried and eaten. It can also extract oil for consumption. Regular consumption is of great help to human health. Many people only know that sesame seeds can be eaten, but they don't know that watering sesame seeds is a big difficulty, so when is watering appropriate and how to water them? Let's get to know each other.

1. Suitable water content for sesame growth period

Sesame seeds have different water requirements in different growth stages. From sowing to emergence, the suitable soil moisture content for emergence is between 15% and 25%, and the fastest emergence and highest emergence rate are 17%-23%. When the soil moisture content decreased below 14%, the emergence rate decreased with the decrease of soil moisture content, and the emergence speed also slowed down. Sesame seeds could not germinate when soil moisture content dropped below 8%. When the soil moisture content was higher than 23%, the emergence rate and emergence speed also showed a downward trend. From seedling to maturity, sesame water requirement is relatively high, 60%-75% from seedling to early flowering; 75%-85% from early flowering to peak; 65%-75% from peak to maturity. When the soil moisture content is lower than 50%, sesame will be displaced due to drought, and when the soil moisture content is higher than 90%, it is unfavorable for its growth, and it is very likely to cause waterlogging to kill seedlings.

2. Watering time

Sesame will wither when the soil moisture content approaches 50% of the maximum water holding capacity during sesame growth, or the light soil moisture content is less than 13%, the medium loam soil is less than 15%, and the clay loam soil is less than 16%. In the case of summer drought or autumn drought, the upper leaves of sesame can be seen withered at about 10 a.m., and will gradually recover after high temperature at noon. When this phenomenon occurs, it should be irrigated immediately, irrigation should also consider the weather conditions, as far as possible to avoid watering before rain or strong wind, watering time to sunny days before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. is the most appropriate.

3, watering method

There are three watering methods for sesame seeds: furrow irrigation, border irrigation and sprinkler irrigation. Furrow irrigation is to use water diversion between rows and small water flow to make water penetrate into the soil from the ditch, reduce the contact area between water flow and ground, prevent ground erosion and reduce soil hardening. Border irrigation is to make ridges in advance, so that water flows along the slope of the border surface and gradually moistens the soil. Border irrigation should control the amount of water to avoid standing water. Sprinkler irrigation is an advanced irrigation technology, which uses sprinkler equipment to spray pressure water into water droplets to irrigate crops. It has the advantages of economical water use, prevention of soil hardening, strong adaptability to terrain and easy control of water volume.
