Lantern fruit is a unique perennial herbal wild fruit with dual-use of medicine and food in the history of our country. Wild resources are distributed in the north and south of our country. During the government and years of the Ming Dynasty, the ancients made full use of it. Today, the editor mainly introduces the breeding technology of lantern fruit.

Seed propagation of lantern fruit

Brother Lantern harvested when the pericarp was yellow and red from October to November, peeled out the seeds and planted them immediately after drying. On the whole seedbed, a horizontal ditch was opened according to the row spacing of 20 cm, with a depth of 1 cm. Then the seeds mixed with plant ash were evenly scattered in the ditch, and the soil was covered with the border surface.

After sowing, the bed surface was covered with straw, heat preservation and moisturizing, planting 3 kg per mu. After emergence in mid-late April, rice straw was removed, and timely loosening, weeding and topdressing were carried out to keep the soil loose, and the nursery was clean and weed-free, combined with loosening soil and weeding. Topdressing once in May. When the height of the seedling reaches 30 cm, it can be planted in the nursery, and the nursery is generally sown artificially. Taking strip sowing as an example, the sowing work is divided into four links, namely, marking, ditching, sowing and covering soil.

Propagation of Lantern Fruit by cutting

The mother tree of lantern fruit picking strips must grow healthily, be free of diseases and insect pests, have high yield and high medicinal value, and select hardwood branches that are fully developed in the same year, with a diameter of about 0.5 cm, completely lignified and free of diseases and insect pests. Cut off the top part, cut the cuttings with a length of 15 cm to 20 cm, with 3 bud nodes in each section, and cut into a 45 °oblique plane or double-sided oblique cut 0.5 cm below the bud node at the bottom of the cuttings.

In order to improve the propagation effect of cuttings, the cuttings should be treated before cutting. the lantern fruit cuttings are mainly soaked to make the cuttings absorb enough water before cutting, which is beneficial to rooting and drought resistance. at the same time, after soaking, the cuttings also play a certain role in eliminating the inhibition of rooting substances. 25 strips are a bundle, the base and tip of each bundle can not be reversed, the base is neat and uniform, and then placed in clean water. The soaking time is generally 1 day, it is best to soak in running water, if there is no running water, change the water for 1 or 2 times. Then soak in ABTI rooting powder for 2 hours.

The cutting time of lantern fruit can be raised by cutting all the year round, but the survival rate of cutting is the highest from May to September. The cutting bed should be arranged before cutting, the soil should be carefully prepared and the basic fertilizer should be applied to make the soil loose and moisture sufficient. Soil disinfection should be carried out if necessary. Insert the buried strip obliquely into the seedbed, leaving only a small part of the bud to reveal the soil surface. The row spacing is 20 cm × 20 cm.

Propagation of Lantern Fruit by horizontal pressing

Lantern fruit can also be propagated by horizontal striping method, open into a radial longitudinal ditch from the plant cluster in spring, with a depth of about 15 cm, choose a strong annual new branch, bend the branch downward and lead horizontally to the longitudinal ditch, so that the whole branch is close to the bottom of the ditch, and several branches can be placed in a ditch, but it should be noted that there should be a certain distance between them, so that the new root can grow, and then fill the soil in the ditch, and the top of the branch will be exposed to the ground.

As the new shoots on the pressing strip grow higher and higher, the soil is cultivated step by step to make the base of the new shoots take root. When the leaves fall in autumn, each new plant with root is separated from the mother plant to become an independent plant. The horizontal striping has the advantages of simple operation, high survival rate and strong seedlings.
