Hazelnut is a shrub or small tree of the genus Corylus in the birch family. It is born in the shrub on the shady slope of the mountain at an altitude of 200 to 1000 meters. It is cold-resistant and likes a humid climate. It naturally produces clusters of trees with a height of 7 to 8 meters. The height of cultivated trees is 3 to 5 meters. The flowering period is from April to May and the fruit period is from September to October. Let's take a look at the fruit of hazelnut trees planted for several years.

The hazelnut tree has borne fruit for several years

The general sexual propagation seedlings of hazelnut trees begin to bear fruit after 3-4 years, and the asexual hazel seedlings begin to bear fruit in 2-3 years, enter the full fruit stage in more than 7 years, and their plant life can reach more than 50 years.

Growth habits of hazelnut trees

1. Temperature: different kinds of hazelnut trees have different requirements for temperature. Hazel prefers a warm and humid climate. The suitable average temperature is 13-15 ℃, the absolute lowest is-10 ℃, and the extremely high temperature is 38 ℃. Pingou hybrid is more cold-resistant than hazel, and is suitable for cultivation in the area with an average annual temperature of 7.5-13 ℃ and a minimum temperature of-30 ℃.

2. Lighting: hazelnut trees are light-loving plants, and annual sunshine hours are generally required to be more than 2100 hours, otherwise the flower bud formation is less and the yield is low.

3. Soil: hazelnut trees like to grow on fertile and well-ventilated sandy loam, especially Pingou hybrids have high requirements for soil, dry sand, clayey soil, swamp, saline land and low-lying land are not suitable to establish hazelnut garden. The soil pH value of Pingou hybrids is 6.5-7.5 and that of hazel is 5.5-7.

4. Cultivation: the branches of hazelnut trees are easy to root, and adventitious buds are easy to sprout roots and tillers. Therefore, seedlings are usually propagated by striping or grafting. The early spring striping uses annual robust germinating branches, and June crimping uses the same year's twigs as materials. Grafted seedlings are often used as rootstocks.

Hazelnut cultivars

1. David: the tree is strong and half-open. The nut is oval, the average single fruit weight is 2.6 grams, the shell is brown, the shell thickness is 1.5 mm, the nut is smooth, full, the flavor is good, and the kernel yield is 44%. It has high yield and many fruits in one sequence, with an average of 2.0 grains per sequence, and the 5-year-old plant produces 1.5-2.0 kg. The average yield of 7-year-old 8-year-old trees is more than 2.0 kg. If 1110-1245 trees are planted per hectare, the yield is 2.0-2.5 tons per hectare. Nuts ripen in late August. It has strong overwintering ability and can resist low temperature of-35 ℃ during dormant period. It is suitable for cultivation in areas with an annual average temperature of more than 4 ℃.

2. Liaozhen No. 1: Liaozhen No. 1 has strong tree potential, semi-open posture and few male inflorescences. Nuts oval, yellowish, furrowed. The single fruit weighs 2.6 grams, the shell thickness is 1.1 mm, the kernel is full, smooth, the flavor is good, and the kernel rate is 40%. It has high yield and many fruits in one order. the average yield of 7 ~ 8-year-old trees is more than 2.0 kg. The nuts matured in the first ten days of September and overwintered moderately, so they were suitable for cultivation in areas with an annual average temperature of more than 8 ℃.

3. Liaozhen No. 2: Liaozhen No. 2 nut is large, round and yellowish brown, with an average single fruit weight of 2.5 grams, a thin shell of 1.2 mm, a kernel rate of 46%, bright and clean nuts, full and good flavor. The tree is more moderate, the tree posture is erect, and the male inflorescence is less. High yield, fruiting early, planting striped seedlings began to bear fruit for 2 ~ 3 years, early high yield, 5-year-old plants produced 1 kg, 8-year-old plants produced 2.0 kg. It blossoms in mid-March in Dalian and the nut ripening period is in early September. This variety is not cold-tolerant and often has shoot-shooting phenomenon in Dalian and Shenyang, so it needs to be cultivated in areas with an annual average temperature of more than 8 ℃.

4. Liaozhen No. 3: Liaozhen No. 3 has strong tree potential, upright posture, long oval nuts, yellowish brown nuts, average single fruit weight 2.8 grams, kernel weight 1.3 grams, shell thickness 1.1 mm, kernel yield as high as 48%, kernels bright and clean, full, good flavor and high yield. the 7-8-year-old plant produces more than 2.0 kg. It has strong cold resistance and overwintering, can withstand low temperature of-35 ℃ in winter, and can be cultivated in areas with an annual average temperature of more than 4 ℃.

5. Liaozhen No. 7: Liaozhen No. 7 has a moderate tree potential and opens its posture. Nuts conical, reddish brown, beautiful. The average weight of a single fruit is 2.8 grams, the thickness of the shell is medium, the kernel rate is 40%, the kernel is full, smooth, the kernel peel is easy to fall off, and the flavor is good. The early fruit and high yield were strong, and the fruit began to bear fruit in 2 ~ 3 years after setting. The 5 ~ 6-year-old plants produced 1 ~ 1.5 kg, and the 7 ~ 8-year-old plants produced more than 2.8 kg. The fruit matured in the middle of August in Shenyang. It is resistant to cold and overwintering, and resistant to-35 ℃ low temperature in winter. It can be cultivated in areas with an annual average temperature above 4 ℃.

6. Liaozhen 8: Liaozhen 8 is a cold-resistant variety with round nuts, reddish brown, longitudinal stripes and beautiful appearance. The nut is large, the single fruit weighs 2.7g, the kernel rate is 41%, the kernel is full, smooth, fragrant and slightly sweet. The crown is small and dwarf. The fruit was early and fruitful, and it began to bear fruit 2-3 years after planting, and the yield of 6-year-old plant was more than 1.8 kg. It has strong cold resistance, can endure low temperature of-38 ℃ in winter, and can be cultivated in areas with an annual average temperature of more than 2 ℃.
