The latest plantain planting technology tutorial
Plantains are perennial herbs of the Banana family, belonging to the same family as bananas. they are similar in appearance and have certain medicinal value. they are native to the Ryukyu Islands and can be cultivated in open fields south of the Qinling and Huaihe River. they are mostly cultivated in gardens and farmhouses. Let's take a look at the planting techniques of plantain.
The growth habits of plantain
The plantain has large and wide leaves, weak sexual warmth and cold tolerance, strong stem meristematic ability, semi-shade tolerance, strong adaptability and fast growth. It grows well in the soil with deep soil layer, loose and fertile soil and good drainage. It is not cold-resistant, it must keep the temperature above 4 ℃ in winter, but it can also withstand the low temperature of 0 ℃ for a short time. Tolerance to semi-shade, too shady, the plant growth is poor, it is difficult to bloom. Because its leaves are parallel veins, the structure is loose, and it is easy to be blown apart by the strong wind, so it should be planted in a place of shelter from the wind. Like to be moist, you should often water and spray water to the plants to maintain high soil and air humidity, but avoid continuous stagnant water in the soil, otherwise it is easy to rot the roots.
Propagation methods of plantain
Issa is mostly propagated by individual plants, which should be carried out in the first ten days of April. When dividing the plant, first around the plantain, dig up the soil with a spade or hoe, let the small banana head and stolon root exposed, and then cut off the stolon root from the mother with a sharp knife, and the small banana head is the seed seedling propagated in separate plants. If the stolon root of the seedling already has whisker root, it can be planted directly in the courtyard or as a pot ornamental. If the cut seedlings do not have fibrous roots, you can first fill the breeding bed with plain sandy soil to raise roots, and before burying it into the sandy seedling bed, you should consider the needs of potted plants in the future, cut the stolons appropriately to facilitate the pots in the future, and be careful not to damage root nodules during operation.
Cultivation techniques of plantain
1. Land selection and land preparation: plantain cultivation land selects cool, moist and fertile places, such as ditches, ridges, embankments, dams and ponds, especially depressions. If you choose sloping land, you should choose places with thick soil layer and good sources of water and fertilizer. When preparing the soil, we should loosen the soil and break the soil so that the "riding whip" (that is, the underground stem) can spread after planting and grow in time.
2. Transplanting time: plantain transplanting is generally carried out from late autumn to early spring of the following year, because plantain is in a dormant period at this time. In the banana forest that has been growing for more than 5 years, we should select the new stem from the riding whip in the current year. Riding whip to choose around the plant, because this kind of walking whip has well-developed roots and strong soil strength. At the same time, avoid digging off the riding whip and require 2 to 3 annual stems on each stalk.
3. Transplanting method: the number of stems per litter of plantain should be suitable according to the land conditions, generally 2-3 per litter on the ridge and embankment, and 1 per litter in the depression, because the depression is cool and humid, the soil and water conditions are good, and the plant is easy to grow. When planting, put the stem upright in the planting nest that has been dug in advance, and fill it with finer pig, cow and sheep dung mixed with a small amount of fertile soil.
4. Management after planting: after planting, the stem of plantain should be covered with straw, thatch or plastic film to prevent frost injury. Don't uncover the mulch until the earth warms up. Within 3-4 years after planting, fertilizer should be applied to cover the soil once a year to promote breeding and growth. Fertilizing and covering the soil should be carried out in the spring when the earth warms up and the heart leaves begin to grow. Pig, cow, sheep manure or soil manure should be fine and evenly sprinkled on the stem, and then the fertile soil should be covered. Barren plots should apply more manure, while fertile plots can apply less manure. In addition, when young stems begin to grow, livestock should be prevented from trampling and gnawing.
