Tropical Orchid (Orchid) Knowledge Brief

Tropical orchids, also known as orchids, have many kinds, such as Cartland, Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium, Dendrobium, Oncidium, Phalaenopsis, Wandai Orchid and so on. At present, the most popular tropical orchids in the flower market are:

1. Cartland . Beautiful flowers, a wide variety, known as the "king of orchids," the laudatory name of tropical orchids. Cartland has almost all colors except blue and black, and each flower has a variety of colors.

2. Phalaenopsis. Because of its drooping flowers, flowers like dancing butterflies get the name, known as "after the orchid". Butterfly-shaped flowers bloom from the bottom up on the long pedicels, which can be viewed continuously for 60 to 70 days. There are white, purple, red, orange and other colors, there will be different varieties of Phalaenopsis bloom all the year round.

3. Cymbidium grandiflora. Also known as tiger orchid, its varieties, large plant shape, large petals, bright colors and flowers, there are red, white, green, yellow, pink, purple and a variety of transitional colors and compound colors, the flower stem is erect, and the florescence is as long as 2 to 3 months. It is one of the most widely cultivated orchids in the world.

4. The stem of Dendrobium is thick, the plant is generous, the posture is amiable, each flower stem can bloom 20 to 70, and has a light fragrance, each flower can bloom for 1 to 3 months.

Tropical orchid belongs to aerial root system, so the cultivation medium should have good drainage, strong moisture retention and good air permeability. Generally use moss, charcoal, broken bark, you can also go to the flower market to buy prepared media materials. Usually manage and protect tropical orchids to keep the basin soil moist, the surface should be watered when dry, and required to be thoroughly watered. Generally, it is watered once a day in summer and 2 to 3 times a week in winter. When it is hot in summer, you can sprinkle a small amount of water around the flowerpot or spray water on the leaves. The thin liquid fertilizer or orchid special fertilizer prepared by inorganic fertilizer can be applied to the plant every 10 days in the growing season. The suitable temperature for tropical orchid growing season is 18 ℃ to 25 ℃, there should be sufficient indoor scattered light to avoid direct sunlight exposure, so as not to affect the growth and flowering period. During flowering, the plants should be placed in weak light so that the flowers can be more gorgeous and lasting. The overwintering temperature should be kept above 10 ℃.

The pots of tropical orchids can be changed after flowering. when changing pots, cut off the withered old roots and residual flowers, cover the roots with soaked moss after drying, and fill the new cultivation medium materials. It can be maintained according to the usual management method when placed in a cool place for a week or so.
