Baobab native to Africa, Madagascar and other tropical regions, its crown is very large, the diameter of the trunk can reach two people can not hold. But it's fragile. You can shoot through tree trunks. The whole body of baobab tree is treasure, the fruit is rich in vitamin C and antioxidant ingredients, known as "super fruit" leaves and even bark can be used as medicine, can be used to reduce inflammation and fever. Although native to Africa, but in our tropical areas are also planted, then how to grow baobab? Details are as follows:

1. Seed soaking and germination

The seed coat of baobab tree is very thick and hard. If the seed is put directly before planting, its germination rate will be very low. Therefore, before sowing and planting, the seeds should be germinated. There are many ways to germinate seeds, such as mechanical peeling, soaking, etc., generally using soaking methods. Soak the seeds in concentrated sulfuric acid for about 7 hours, and the germination rate of such seeds can exceed 90% three weeks after sowing. Although the method of mechanical peeling can accelerate the germination of seeds, it will have certain side effects, not only can not promote the germination rate of seeds, but also affect their normal growth.

2. Select the land for sowing

After the seeds have been germinated, they can be sown, because baobab is a fruit grown in the tropics, so it requires sufficient sunlight, a certain amount of water, fertile soil, and a deeper soil layer. The seeds will begin to whiten about a week after sowing, and germination will begin about a month after all growth conditions are normal. However, after germination, it should be shaded for about a week before the seedlings can be completely exposed to sunlight. During the shaded time, the seedlings need to gradually adapt to the sunlight to avoid sudden changes in light that cause the seedlings to fail to adapt to death. Then water at least twice a day, morning and evening, to ensure adequate moisture for growth.

3. Water and fertilizer management

The water and fertilizer management of baobabs is determined by the weather conditions and soil conditions of the planting area, and the water and fertilizer requirements of baobabs are different at each growth stage. Young trees are watered at least twice a week, usually in the evening or morning. Although mature baobabs do not need watering, proper watering can better promote the growth of baobabs. Before planting, a certain amount of base fertilizer needs to be applied, and after planting, topdressing is applied. If the planting purpose is mainly leaves, then more organic fertilizer should be applied. Spring and summer are the peak growing seasons for baobabs, so make up for the moisture you need.

4. Timely harvest

The harvest time and harvest method of baobab also have certain attention. If there is no correct harvest method, it will not only reduce the yield, but also affect the storage and transportation quality after harvest. It can even harm the tree and harm the yield of the next year. The most suitable harvest time is in October of each year, when the bark turns dark gray or the trunk turns black, the leaves can be harvested. To harvest better quality fruit, wait until the bark turns pink or purple and the trunk turns red.

The above is a brief introduction to the cultivation method of baobab trees. The cultivation area of baobab trees in China has not been fully developed because baobab trees are native to the tropics. It has great requirements for the environment, and it is only planted in tropical provinces such as Hainan and Yunnan in China. However, Xiaobian thinks that baobab still has a certain planting prospect, because the nutritional value of baobab is very high, the shell of the fruit can be used as a ladle, the pulp can satisfy hunger, and the juice can quench thirst. Therefore, growers with planting conditions can consider it.
