How to raise Paphiopedilum? Flower friends talk about the maintenance of Paphiopedilum
Paphiopedilum, also known as slipper orchid, is one of the earliest and most popular orchids in the world. Most of the species of Paphiopedilum are terrestrial orchids with short flowers and strange flowers, which are the most suitable for potted plants. Paphiopedilum is a perennial herb growing in tropical and subtropical forests, growing on humus soil, and a few are epiphytic species. There are about 65 species in all genera, which are mainly distributed in southwest China, the Himalayas to the west of Asia and the vast areas of the Indonesian archipelago. There are more than ten wild species in China, most of which have been introduced into Europe and America as breeding parents.
The flowers of Aristolochia are elegant and solemn in color, with white, light green, yellow, pink, purple, brown and irregular spots or stripes. The petals are thicker and the flowers bloom for a long time. The labial flap of Paphiopedilum is in the shape of slippers (pocket), hence its name.
Paphiopedilum plant material
Single plant material or mixed plant material can be used, and the mixed plant material is more suitable for its growth. According to its habits, Paphiopedilum can be divided into two types: limestone and acid sandstone. Among the domestic varieties, apricot yellow, hard leaf, hemp millet slope, Henry, etc., belong to limestone, while the green leaf pockets with leaf, long-petal, ribbon, Hong Kong, beautiful and so on are mostly acid sandstone. Varieties in limestone mountain areas can be made of rotten leaf soil, charcoal or broken bricks, broken eggshells or sea pumice directly.
Paphiopedilum planting
Those belonging to acid sandstone mountains can be planted with rotten leaf soil, charcoal or broken bricks or directly with tree fern roots. Fern roots are often used in the south, and bark acts as potted materials, while rotten leaf soil is suitable for the north, and peat soil is more moisturizing. The first part of the basin floor is filled with broken bricks and other granules to facilitate drainage and ventilation, and then planted with rotten leaf soil. In the tropical and subtropical marine climate of South China and other southern regions, potted plants such as fern roots, moss and bark can also be used as national orchid cultivation plants (orchid stone), so that the roots can be well drained, breathable and the roots do not decay easily.
Paphiopedilum management
Aristolochia likes half-shade, 70% of the sun should be covered in spring, summer and autumn, and about 50% in winter, so it is most suitable in an environment with shade, such as a shade net for cultivation in a greenhouse or greenhouse. The anti-drying ability of Paphiopedilum is not as good as that of other orchids with sturdy roots, and the basin soil should be kept moist. Always sprinkle water around the flowerpot during the dry season to keep the air high.
Humidity
Keep it dry after flowering. After the new buds germinate in the growing season, thin liquid fertilizer can be applied once every 2-3 weeks. Organic fertilizer can not be applied to the leaf, otherwise it is easy to cause leaf rot. Most species of Paphiopedilum are not resistant to cold. The room temperature in winter should be above 5 degrees at night, and it should be 5-10 degrees higher in daytime than at night. Generally speaking, all kinds of purplish red marble patterns on the front and back of leaves need higher temperature. Pay attention to ventilation in hot and humid summer. Many varieties produced at low latitudes and high altitude are very afraid of heat, high turbidity and humidity can easily cause soft rot, young leaves and buds turn black and die, and in serious cases the whole plant dies. When this phenomenon occurs, we must stop foliar spraying, strengthen ventilation, lower the temperature, and spray anti-seedling agents.
Ornamental of Paphiopedilum
Aristolochia is generally small, green leaves of the four seasons, variegated leaves of the strange attraction, and for the light is not high, leaf-shaped round head and broad body, similar to the dwarf in the national orchid, so it is very suitable for indoor potted plants, or placed on the desk, bedroom windowsill, gargle bathroom, large varieties can be placed in the hall, entrance Xuan Tou. The flowering period of Paphiopedilum is longer, the blooming time of each flower is 3-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks, and the flowering time of varieties with more than one pole is longer.
Due to different varieties and different opening times, most species bloom in winter and spring, as well as in summer and autumn. If cultivated properly, there will be flowers all the year round. Light pots should be used for planting in the orchid shed, such as black plastic bag pots, such as small plants that can be planted in national orchid high-waist pots, which can be placed in multiple pots, some high-grade varieties can be used to cover pots, and the transparent pots in the inner layer can watch the growth of roots and maintain good humidity.
Indoor display can choose ancient style (pottery, dead wood basin, national orchid basin, bronze), modern simple style (wooden frame, bamboo tube, iron, rattan, tree fern basin). Add some water moss to the basin to maintain a certain humidity, and the leaf surface is brighter.
