Durian is mainly distributed in tropical provinces in China, and its planting area is very extensive. When planting, many friends usually adopt the method of sowing to reproduce, but the genetic variability of durian is large, and different kernels may produce different fruits. Its quality is different, which is very disadvantageous to the fruit growers. So are there any other breeding methods for durian? The following editor has brought you the methods of reproduction in addition to sowing and reproduction. let's have a look!

1. Budding propagation

First of all, the rootstock will be ready to breed, the diameter will be controlled at about 2-3 cm, and then the rootstock will be cut up and down about 1 cm above and below the ground at a position of about 10 cm from the ground, about 4 cm apart. Then cut it flat in the upper part of the seam and scrape off the bark to ensure that it is consistent with the specifications of the sprouts, and a small amount of skin should be retained in the lower part of the incision to hold the buds. The treatment of bud slices is similar to that of rootstock peeling. After combining bud slices with rootstocks, they are fastened with plastic film, and the grafting interface should not meet water within 2 days. After about two weeks, whether the grafted seedlings survived or not was observed. After survival, the upper part of the rootstock was cut off about 28 cm away from the buds to promote growth. Rootstocks will gradually grow branches, we should pay attention to the growth of branches, regular pruning, so as to avoid affecting the growth of buds.

2. Cuttage propagation

Choose strong, pest-free and wound-free branches as cuttings. The length of the branch tip is about 16 cm, and the diameter is not more than 3 cm. Each branch tip retains about 1/3 leaves to prevent the water from evaporating too quickly. Then cut the base of the branch about 45 degrees, smear a layer of rooting agent, and insert it into the cutting substrate. When raising seedlings, we should not have too strong light and add water properly. if the leaves do not fall off after two months or so, it means that the cuttings have taken root and can be transplant properly at this time.

3. Abdominal grafting reproduction

Ventral grafting propagation should also choose a good rootstock, keep the rootstock lignified, the cortex is easy to fall off, a reasonable choice of cuttings, the incision is similar to budding. However, we have to choose about 11 cm long, leafless and unlignified twigs as scions. Then cut the scion diagonally, the length should not exceed the rootstock cut, and align it into the rootstock cut. Then use a plastic belt to tie it tight, wrapped in a plastic film, adjust the temperature, should not be too high. Cut off the plastic film about half a month later, but do not cut the plastic bag short, at least the branch tip grows.

4. Striping propagation

Striping propagation has no requirements for the season, choose a branch slightly longer than the diameter of the cuttings, at its base, about 38 cm in the part to do ring peeling work. After girdling, the cambium at the incision should be removed to prevent the restoration of the incision cortex from rooting. Then wrap a layer of wet soil at the cut, wrap it with plastic film and tie the two ends tightly to prevent air leakage. After about three months, it will take root at the incision, separate it from the mother plant, then cut the plastic film and plant it into the nursery bed. It can be transplanted in about two months, but its survival rate is not high, so it is not recommended to use it.

The above is a brief introduction to the breeding methods of durian. Durian should be used reasonably according to planting scale and direction in reproduction and production. For example, large-scale planting is not suitable for striping propagation, and the survival rate of striping reproduction is low, which will have a great impact on planting efficiency. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. I hope it can help you all.
