Lotus is also called Shuipu peach, Yangpu peach and pomegranate. It is a kind of tropical fruit favored by everyone in the market at present. In China, lotus is mainly planted in Taiwan, but at present, it is also partly planted in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hainan and other places, and the planting effect is also very good. In order to improve the yield and quality of lotus trees, we need to prune them scientifically. So how to prune the lotus tree? Now let's study together.

1. Pruning principle

If the lotus tree is to enter the fruiting period as soon as possible and bear more fruit, then scientific pruning is needed. We generally have to follow certain pruning principles when pruning, so as to ensure the output of lotus mist. The main principles of general pruning are low trunk, low crown, few big branches, many twigs, proper control and proper weight. In popular terms, it is to shorten the length of the trunk and reduce the height of the crown; the upper trunk should not have many branches, the reasonable distribution of secondary and tertiary branches, and the spatial structure of each branch; young trees and poorly growing lotus fog trees are mainly light pruning, while strong trees and old trees should be heavily cut to adjust the tree position reasonably.

2. Pruning method

Lotus fog trees need to be pruned in accordance with certain methods, while the general fruit tree pruning methods are similar, the main pruning methods are short pruning, thinning, retraction pruning, sprouting, ring cutting, branch pulling, twig bending and so on. Short cutting is to subtract part of the branches; thinning is mainly to prune off old branches, disease and insect branches, weak branches, dense branches, overgrown branches and messy branches; retractive pruning is mainly to prune aging trees; wiping buds and shoots is to erase new buds and promote the growth of branches and leaves in all directions; ring cutting is to ring-cut the lower part of the trunk to achieve catalytic fruit setting; the main purpose of branch pulling is to adjust the distance between branches and improve lighting.

3. Pruning young trees

The period of sapling usually refers to the period from planting to fruiting. The main purpose of the pruning of lotus trees during the sapling period is to form a complete tree shape. after planting, we should first retain the first-class trunk according to the growth of the lotus tree, wait for the lotus tree to grow to about one meter, remove the top buds, promote the growth of the secondary trunk, and then progress until a complete open tree shape is formed. Before the shape of the young tree enters the fruiting stage, we still need to prune it properly, which is mainly to prune the budding branches and overgrown branches, and mainly cultivate the fruiting mother branches.

4. Pruning the result tree

For fruiting lotus trees, we mainly carry out reasonable pruning and shaping, which is used to expand the crown, renew fruiting branches, promote flowering and fruiting, and play a role in increasing yield. For lotus trees in the fruiting period, we usually need to prune them three times a year, namely, spring pruning, summer pruning and winter pruning. The pruning during this period is mainly to prune off disease and insect branches, withered branches, old branches, dense branches, overgrown branches, straight branches, drooping branches, cross branches, weak branches and so on. It is also important to note that spring pruning must be done as early as possible, preferably when the branches and leaves are sprouting; summer pruning cannot be pruned at flowering stage; and winter pruning should also be done as early as possible, which is conducive to the safety of lotus trees during the winter.

The pruning technique of lotus flower is basically the same as that of general fruit tree pruning, so many methods can be used in general. But what we should pay attention to when pruning is to grasp the time of pruning.
