Watermelon planting in order to prevent diseases, but also in order to obtain some good shape characters, so grafted seedlings are replanted. Generally, watermelons are grafted with pumpkins, because the root system of pumpkins is strong, and there will be some benefits to watermelons themselves after grafting. The specific operation method of watermelon grafting is the main content of the next article. Let's learn about it.

First, select rootstocks

First of all, choose the watermelon varieties to be grafted, pumpkin, bottle gourd and wax gourd as rootstocks, generally choose more pumpkins, here take pumpkins as an example, to choose pumpkin varieties with strong adaptability and good varieties as rootstocks.

Second, soaking seeds to accelerate germination

First of all, it is necessary to soak the pumpkin seeds to promote germination, sowing and raising seedlings, and it is better to adopt container seedlings for better management. After sowing and emergence, you can begin to soak the watermelon seeds and then sow them. When the pumpkin seedlings grow to two true leaves, the watermelons are almost just emerging, so that the pumpkins are not too old. Pumpkins can be soaked in 60 degrees hot water and watermelons can be soaked and sterilized in 50 degrees hot water. Then the seeds need to be soaked in warm water of about 25 degrees Celsius. After the seeds are swollen, they can be washed and drained and wrapped in a wet sandcloth, put in an incubator to accelerate germination, and then taken out and washed once a day.

III. Allocation of nutritious soil

Container cultivation, it is best to configure some nutritious soil to provide growth using soil, river sand, peat, pond mud and some rotten peanut shells, mixed together as nutrient soil. After mixing, you can dry it on a clean ground, spray nutrient soil with formalin for disinfection and sterilization, and put it into a container to sow seeds three days later.

IV. Tool preparation

Prepare some razor blades and bamboo sticks, which are smaller than pumpkin stems, as well as sterilized alcohol, cotton swabs or cotton. A blade can be used by two people, the bamboo stick must be smooth, not impetuous, and one end must be cut into an oblique section. Then prepare some bamboo strips and plastic bags. After the grafting is completed, you need to arch them with bamboo strips to cover the plastic bags.

5. Grafting

This paper mainly introduces the common insertion method, because this method is convenient, fast and the survival rate is high. First disinfect the utensils, then cut off the heart leaves on the top of the pumpkin with a blade, then smear the alcohol and insert it obliquely about 2mm below the pumpkin growing point with a bamboo stick. Take out the bamboo stick, then cut the watermelon seedling obliquely from 1 cm below the cotyledon with a blade, then insert the watermelon seedling into the pumpkin growing point, be careful not to fall, and the watermelon seedling stem is not too big. Then use bamboo strips to build a plastic film to cover, or directly put in a small arch shed to cultivate.

Watermelon grafting rootstocks can choose suitable melons, and there is more than one grafting method, but the grafting is the easiest to survive, the procedure is relatively simple, and the production is the most convenient. Therefore, this method of grafting is mainly introduced.
