In the process of strawberry growth, flower and fruit thinning measures for strawberry are often done, which can significantly improve strawberry yield and fruit quality, so how to effectively do flower thinning and fruit thinning? What is the reason for thinning flowers and fruits? Let's get to know it.

1. Reasons for flower and fruit thinning of strawberries.

The removal of excess inflorescences and fruits of strawberries is a way of nutritional regulation in growth and development, because each inflorescence of strawberries grows 10-40 small fruits, the middle and lower inflorescence of the same inflorescence is larger, the higher inflorescence fruit is smaller, the large fruit shape is more than 50 grams, while the small one is only 2-3 grams, resulting in limited nutrients competing with each other. Therefore, the timely removal of some small fruits and weak fruits can concentrate nutrients on the big fruit, make it expand rapidly, increase yield and quality, increase plant permeability and reduce the harm of diseases and insect pests.

2. Flower thinning

Each strawberry generally has two inflorescences, and each inflorescence has 6-30 flowers. the first flowers on the inflorescence bear large fruit and mature early. if they bloom in the later stage, they often cannot set fruit and form invalid flowers. even if they set fruit, they will have no commercial value because the fruit is small. Therefore, in the bud separation period, the flower should bloom no later than the first flower at the latest, and the late weak buds should be removed by 15% and 20%. Flower thinning can reduce nutrient consumption, promote nutrients in time for the first blooming buds, and make the fruit large, neat and early ripening.

3. Fruit thinning

Fruit thinning is carried out in the green stage of young fruit, that is, deformed fruits, insect pests and achenes with weak stalks are removed. For fields with high planting density, 6-8 fruits per inflorescence and 12-16 fruits per plant are suitable. The number of fruits per plant is closely related to strawberry varieties, planting density and soil fertility. Middle and late maturing varieties and plots with high soil fertility and vigorous planting growth can leave more fruits appropriately. On the other hand, the plots with precocious maturity and low soil fertility can be left less.
